Dh!nd$ @: sound device not working ?
Problem : no sound
please note : this is fresh windows XP home installation.
what have i tried so far
1) checked in device manager, there is no yellow mark on sound device controller
2) installed drivers from dell websie for optiplex GX620 but it came back with error message ” drivers are not compatible with computer hardware”
3) updated BIOS to latest version available for this system on dell website
4) cant’s uninstall sound devices on device manager so i could not do that.
please let me know if i can try anything else ?

try the windows update site and chose the custom option and see if it has your hardware drivers.
I had the same problem with my computer when i first put windows on it. I used a sound card for the longest time because the drivers work for that.But all i can suggest is finding different drivers maybe older ones for your card or getting a Driver download program.I don’t know if this is the site you went to but maybe these will work?? https://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R97809.EXE Or,,You can try getting this program and see if it can find your drivers for you https://katz.cd/download/5056385/App/Driver-Genius-Professional-2009-9-0-0-186 Then uninstall the software if you don’t need drivers anymore.Answer by great
If you can’t find the right sound drivers manually I would recommend just getting a software program that can do it for you. There is a program I use which will find drivers for just about all hardware devices. The best part is it takes a snapshot of your system specifications and matches the right driver to go with it.
