KL: Why is my desktop computer telling me to switch to outlet power?
My desktop computer has been shutting down by itself and when I restart it, it tells my battery power is critical and I need to switch to outlet power. It’s a desktop, not a laptop! Does it even have a battery?
The only idea I have is that it might be a problem with the power supply, since we had to replace it last year and used one out of another computer rather than a brand new one.

Your Power Options settings in Control Panel may be set to Laptop instead of Desktop.
Simply go into Control Panel, and then choose Power Options. Here you can change the Power Scheme to Desktop if it isn’t already set.
Answer by Sp33dyLike Wiz said, just go to Control Panel and check if the power settings are set properly and if the problem continues, you may need a new bois battery (the only battery a desktop normally has) or it could be the used power supply that needs replacing again (possibly not powerful enough or had too much dust to cool and overheated)…
if this is a pc that was used in a business before you got it, there’s a possibility that it could be configured to have a “UPS” attached (Uninterrupted Power Supply) and they usually have a large battery as a power source… in this case the BIOS would have a setting in Power corresponding to it and should be disabled if it’s not being used.
