: Is Gay Marriage is generational issue? Will people who are now children and teenagers vote to permit it?
I teach fitth grade in Los Angeles. So talking about gay marriage is off the table. But I have a good friend who is also gay who teaches at Van Nuys High School. He says either very few high school students now oppose gay marriage, or they keep their mouth shut because it’s not cool to be against gay marriage.

I think it is, honestly. Society has become much more accepting, and children grow up in that environment now.

It is. I just completed high school, and I am moving onto chemical engineering. For most people under 30, gay marriage really isn’t an issue. It’s general consensus among my classmates, that the rights granted to one group, should be the same rights granted to everyone. Marriage is included in this. It’s a dead issue. We spend more time debating why anyone would oppose gay marriage.Answer by John J. S
I certainly hope that RIGHTS never become dependent on the majority. May as well be Britain and allow rights to be subject to the whim of parlaiment. This concept is NOT part of the original intent of the constitution.Answer by Mike

Gay marriage is an oxymoron. As a teacher you should know that words have specific definitions and the definition of marriage is already taken by heterosexuals. If one group is allowed to change the meaning of marriage to fit their own wishes why cannot another change the definition of another word (for example to say that the biblical creation story is science) to fit theirs?Answer by Kyle
Yes.

I think we can all see that the mainstream is clearly moving toward tolerance. But that’s just the general trend; you will still likely always have an opposition, even if it is decreasing. Of course the relevant question isn’t whether everyone agrees; the relevant question is which perspective has become mainstream and institutionalized.
Of course the easy solution would be for the government to stop granting any marriages. Let the government issue civil unions to everyone, and let people define ‘marriage’ on their own in the private sector, according to their own personal belief systems.

Im in high school and no one especially the students are opposed to it, most straight teens have gay friends, and we don’t find it an issue. does it honestly matter who you fall in love with boy or girl?
One of my closest friends who no one new she was gay, got up in front of the entire school during a pep rally during her v-ball speech and announced she was gay and everyone INCLUDING teachers and administration clapped for her and she walked out of there hand and hand with the girl she loves. So yes it is more of a generation thing our generation excepts it more..Answer by Superjohn
I’m a Bro in High School, I would vote for gay marriage mostly because it doesn’t affect anything, or me, nor should I be the one to deny someone else happiness just because I get a little creeped out by it, because I do.
Do I make fun of gays? Hell yeah. Should I vote to deny them freedom? No. It’s a new world, get along or get out of the way.
