Doug: How do religious people justify their religion over others?
I don’t understand how any religious person, be they Jewish, Christian, Muslim or any other religion for that matter can be 100% sure that all other religions are wrong. How can you justify your religion and believe all others are invalid? Aren’t you Theists just a little worried that your religion out of the other other thousands may be wrong?

It’s called brain washing.
Remember: The only difference between an atheist and a theist is we believe in one less religion then they do.
Of the 730 established Religions in the world, they do not believe 729, we don’t believe in 730.

I am Christian, and I believe the word of God is truth; so that would mean for me there is no other religion that is truth. We are saved by the blood of Jesus, and only Christianity teaches this. Romans 10:8-10 is how anyone can be born again.Answer by Tuberoot
The Christian answer as I understand it: it’s His Spirit guiding us, and His word to help us with a written source. Not all have that, and God determined those who would receive that gift. So if someone wants to come to Christ, it’s God leading them by influence in His Spirit and word.
John 6
65 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”
They have to jump through hoops and do mental contortions to do it–or they simply decide, “My holy book says it’s so; therefore, I believe that it’s so.”
Really, all religions are equally valid paths to truth, but the severely devout never want to admit that.
Answer by Lu ElèisonThe answer given by those who I have asked in the Anglican clergy is that it’s God’s world and he has it figured out. I don’t think there are many of us that believe the many we people we know are going to be tossed in the eternal garbage for not thinking the same way we do. Not much of a God who would consider such a thing. Eternal judgement isn’t the answer to a temporal issue.Answer by WitnessofJesus
my family lived as catholic, my mother was excommunicated, my grandfather is said to have rejected the church because of its false history. my mother lived without religion, so i did not get a religious upbringing.
when i read the bible, i believed and joined a non denomational church. i found it to be crazy. i was baptized a methodist in the first 3 years. i studied everything that i could gain. i received a visitation from an angel, so i KNEW without a doubt religion was the best course for spirituality. i fell among my old freinds and went back on my beliefs. and yet after only 8 months i decided i needed the best of all christian religions, believing there was a true religion i prayed and fasted.
when the spirit of revelation came upon me, i made a covenant of consecretation to know which church is true.
ONLY one church claims restoration and only one church teaches that jesus said JOIN “none of them”. they all teach doctrines and precepts of men.
the LDS church claims all christianity is in apostacy. and needed to be restored, in this i believe jesus is calling all believers to become “one” in the final church.
If they say “my religion is true for me but it may not be true for others” then awesome. Im cool with that. If they say “my religion is the only true one and not only that but its not really a religion its a relationship with my lord” then go to the doctor and get your head out of your ass please! They were just foolish enough to think the first religion they found was the right one. People hate to be wrong.
BTW not all theists are religious and not all religious are theists.
Answer by Mom CThe Bible says there is only one religion. (Ephesians 4:3-6) . . .endeavoring to observe the oneness of the spirit in the uniting bond of peace. 4 One body there is, and one spirit, even as YOU were called in the one hope to which YOU were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all [persons], who is over all and through all and in all.
So if you do not believe your religion is the right one, why would you belong to it?
Answer by Legally BlondeI guess thats why they’re beliefs and not facts. I can never imagine being 100% sure about anything but some people seem to be able to. I don’t mean to be rude, but I think this makes them seem over-confident and oblivious to everybody else in the world.
I think that if your beliefs are 100% then you tend to take pity on, or even dislike other people purely because they have “the wrong view” in your eyes.
I know lots of atheists dont like religion, but I do (I’m agnostic), I think that belief is a wonderful thing, and if belief causes you to have a better outlook on life and other people then thats fantastic. The only problem I have with religion is all the conflict between them. People are always trying to prove themselves right so end up attacking each other through religion instead of accepting each other for it, even if their views are completely opposite to each other.
I think i’ve gone a bit off-topic here but ah well 😉
Answer by chiefIf you are a Christan then you wonder why are they so many? You read the 10 commandments
and you start evaluating what a servant of god should be like. God chose the Jewish to be his
special people but they had to obey his laws which the commandment on the covertness no one
can truly obey. They were looking for the messiah when Jesus came but only those that excepted
Jesus became Christains and were now god ‘s people. Those who were expecting Jesus to set up
the Kingdom of God on the earth didn’t follow him some are still looking for the Messiah Others
followed others. As to the christain faith the bible says to flee from idols……So every religion that
has Idols or cross’s you can elimate from your search. Slowly you will be abe to see from God’s
word who is doing his will Math 7:21-23Answer by Oom Albert
Unfortunately for you, there is a way. If you operated in the spiritual realm you would perceive spiritual activity either from God of Abraham or from Satan – no in betweens and no other sources. Then its easy to link the religion in focus to either one.
How do you feel about being forced to worship the Sun on a Sunday under the pain of death or prison if you refuse? What do you know about the National Sunday Act that has already been passed into law in some European countries and is up for debate and acceptance everywhere else?
I do believe that you will soon be in a good position to understand that which you cannot fathom at present. So research the Zoroastrian religion asap to fit in under the radar 🙂 🙂
So, no worries about the source of our spiritual power except how much pain we will have to endure before we die!
Answer by H3823W H4MM32I am Jewish, and yes I am religious.
However I believe everyone is right.
Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, and as long as they live life as a good person and help others, why wouldn’t they be rewarded?
Everyone, specially some of the atheists on here, should live more by the realization that everyone is an individual. We all can believe how we want if everyone can be right, then no one is wrong in a way!
We are all humans. Lets stop judging and prodding each other for only what we do or don’t believe.
Answer by Isa ibn YahyaPeace be unto you. I can understand your predicament, but when your religion doesn’t claim that all others are false, then it is easy to see that it is the truth. This is from the Qur’an:
[2:62] Surely, those who believe (in the Qur’an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians,- any who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.
[2:277] Verily, those who have attained to faith and do good works, and are constant in prayer, and dispense Charity – they shall have their reward with their Sustainer, and no fear need they have, and neither shall they grieve.
[5:48] And unto thee have We revealed the Scripture with the truth, confirming whatever Scripture was before it, and a watcher over it. So judge between them by that which Allah hath revealed, and follow not their desires away from the truth which hath come unto thee. For each We have appointed a divine law and a traced out way. Had Allah willed He could have made you one community. But that He may try you by that which He hath given you (He hath made you as ye are). So vie one with another in good works. Unto Allah ye will all return, and He will then inform you of that wherein ye differ.
Answer by lovejesusIt’s about what rings true in your heart, and if you can accept it intellectually. This is the Christian message and prayer — most important in life, get some prayers and get God in your life. Knowing God can transform your life. When you know God, then pray about your life, God can help you live a better life. As God is love, life is primarily about love and relationships in order to have a rich and full life. Also, you need to know God’s Son, Jesus Christ, in your life as your Lord and Savior as Jesus died on the cross as payment for our sins. Having Him with you will give you God’s blessing and forgiveness, as you live God’s way. We need to know and follow God in this life so we can go to heaven after we die, and so we can get God’s help now. Not following God leads to hell, eternal suffering. Instead, there is an important prayer to pray to become a born again Christian. This prayer should be said with faith in God and a sincere heart:
“Dear God, I know that I am a sinful person and I don’t want to be like this anymore. I know that Jesus Christ died on the cross as payment for our sins, and I want to accept Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior so I can receive God’s forgiveness, guidance, and go to heaven someday. Thank you, dear God, for your mercy and guidance; in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
This prayer can take you to a new place in your relationship with God and transform your life. After saying this prayer, you should check out a Christian church like Baptist, Catholic, Lutheran. The church can get you baptized and prayed for, and you can pray for yourself daily. Also, get into their Bible study group so you can learn more about God, Jesus, and God’s will for your life. The Bible is God’s instruction book about how to live a God-honoring life so you can go to heaven after you die. Ways to stay connected to God’s path include loving God and Jesus Christ, obeying God’s ways, daily Bible reading, daily prayer for yourself and others, getting to church or getting a church person to get out and visit you, group prayer, fasting with prayer for a higher level of prayer, getting with other Christians and doing a Bible study, singing hymns to God, taking communion with the church, helping and loving others, expressing your gratitude to God for His help in your life by telling others of your progress and helping them draw closer to God too. God guide your life.Answer by Usagi Tsukino
Not all theists are like that. But i see your point. People want to justify their beliefs over all others because they see their religion as the truth and nothing BUT the truth and see their holy books as 100% accurate and perfect. And yes there are folks out there who are afraid that their beliefs might be wrong and try to convince themselves that it’s not. Trying to say some person’s beliefs are invalid is stupid and immature.Answer by Rachel
It’s really easy to believe with 100% certainty that your religion is the truth when it is.
There is so much I could say about Judaism, but I’m not in the mood of writing a 5,000 page essay on answers website. All religions have their “proofs” and interpretations that they are able to pull off and convince people that theirs is the truth. There is SO much truth to every letter of Torah and every aspect of Judaism that it’s really hard to deny or ignore it. But to put aside all the proofs and reasonings and logics that there are that really prove to a person’s intellect that it’s OBVIOUSLY the only way to go, I’ll say this –
According to the nature of religions, at least .000000001% of your knowledge has to be faith, even if your brain and logic are screaming the obvious to you at the top of their lungs. So what took care of that .000000001% for me was this – seeing the holiness of the great rabbis and the absolute refinement that great Jews are able to have in all aspects of their life including total, beautiful control of all their actions; in addition to the feeling of holiness and G-dliness that comes upon you when you fulfill a commandment with true focus and intention – there’s nothing like it. It’s not a feeling of happiness, joy, fulfillment, or any of that. It’s really impossible to explain. When you get to see or experience true holiness you just KNOW, without a shadow of doubt, that there won’t, isn’t, and never will be anything that is truer or realer than Judaism.
