Seth: When did Christians stop viewing Islam as a Christian heresy and instead as a different religion?
When you read works by Christian theologians and apologists such as Peter the Venerable you see that at the time Islam was viewed as a heresy which arose WITHIN Christianity rather than a completely different religion, but now Islam is considered completely separate from Christianity as a world religion in of itself (sort of like who Christianity began as a Jewish sect but over time became its own religion).
So when did Islam start getting its own recognition independent of Christianity?
