Katie-mae: Why is my laptop connecting to the router but not the internet?
I’ve been having troubles with my internet connection with my laptop for the past two days now. It is connecting to the router and saying I have 4 bars of signal however it is then saying unable to connect to the internet. It doesn’t seem to be a problem with the router as other things that use it such as my Ipod and Xbox are connecting to the internet with no issues. My laptop also has no problems connecting to my friends or neighbor’ s internet connection. Any ideas whats causing this?

Answer by _Rob_Your router seems ok because Ipod gets internet.
Your laptop is ok because it gets internet elsewhere.
Thoughts on whats causing this: Either (a) your computer isn’t authenticating to the router, (b) it is authenticating but the laptop and router are configured to not like each other specifically, (c) something’s wrong with the DNS server your laptop connected to, (d) your browser doesn’t like your connection, or (e) your laptop may be connecting to the wrong wifi connection in the vicinity.
I’d use ping, ipconfig, look at network properties, browser connection, firewall and router settings.
