Blueglasses: Which hotel location is more convenient for sight seeing in Amsterdam?
I’m planning to visit Amsterdam, Netherlands next week. I would like to know whether the Marriot Hotel (located between Leidseplein and Vondelpark) or the Renaissance Hotel (located between Central Station and Dam Square) would be more convenient given the winter weather.
Which hotel location is better for tourist to see the major attractions in the wintertime? Any other travel tips for exploring Amsterdam in December? Thank you.

The Renaissance by all means (I’ve been to Amsterdam, and I am a hotel manager of 8 years ). The location is beautiful and close to stuff thats historic, and entertainment – the redlight district, the hard rock, lots of tours n stuff.
The Renaissance is in a really tacky area of fast food chains and annoying tourists. Tons of traffic. The Marriot’s location is great, Leidseplein is an ideal location. I’ve seen that hotel from the outside often and dream of a day I could afford it.
I’m sorry, I have to disagree with the answer above. Damrak, the street near the Renaissance, is simply awful.
Answer by tonalc1I like the Marriott, and I prefer the Leidseplein neighborhood to the Central/Dam Square area. Plus, the Marriott breakfast is quite yummy.
Both have good access to trams. The Marriott is quite close to the canal tour boats (if that interests you).
PS–it’s cold

I would choose Marriott, because it’s at a better location. Renaissance is in a busy traffic area, unless you want to travel by train outside Amsterdam, rhan the Renaissance is closer to the train station.Answer by UGOGIRL
I agree with the others. Leidseplein seemed to be the area we spent most of our time in and you can easily catch the tram that runs between the trainstation and Leidseplein. Dress warm!! I’m jealous!
