i am very good at writing them, but i can never seem to get started with a good opening sentence…. the essay is about a summary of all the english and language arts classes i have taken since elementary school
haha… chapwithwing’s thats exactly what i was thinking:P

Who cares what the opening sentence is? The fact is that you’ve been set an impossible essay. That’s a terrible task. Sorry you ended up with such a dubious teacher.

quotes are sometimes good starters. one is “If you can read this, thank a teacher”…and then tell about how you learned from your classes…

other than that you could state a fact like something unusual or extraordinary that you’ve learned throughout the years…something like “Did you know that (fill in the blank). If it hadn’t been for english, I wouldn’t have known this…”

Bethey — write your opening at the end, once the body is complete. Don’t get stuck on the opening. Just start writing, based off your outline, and figure out the opening once you have some stuff in the can. At the end, sometimes the opening can write itself, as your brain has worked it out.

This is off the top of my head, and needs a little work, but maybe something like “While man kind has been writing for a few thousand years, only in the recent past have we really expanded our methods of education. The XXXXX District School Board utilizes a variety of systems, classes, strategies, and courses to distribute its knowledge of languages to students from the time they enroll in kindergarten to the time they graduate from grade 12.”

Really, though, work on it. Make sure that your introductory paragraph lists the points you’ll be covering in the body paragraphs in their order of appearance.

my earliest recollection on what i have learned was by my teacher ———– in grade ——— this class taught me how English and language art is used in ————— my favourite assignment was——————-the story in language arts that affected my the most was——————–because—————
