Plain and simple. I just want to know what sports were played during the renaissance in Europe. Preferably Italy or the rest of Europe.

Swordsmanship(fencing included),horsemanship,wrestling and jousting competitions were quite common in the Renaissance. However, during the renaissance, it was technological breakthroughs and art which progressed greatly not sport.

Believe it or not, handball was very popular, especially in France (They called it Tennis, however). Your question is a little vague, in that you do not clarify as to social class or region. “The Renaissance” was not a single time or place, but occurred in different ways in different parts of Europe (and the Americas).

In Italy, more specifically in Florence, a sport today known as an “ancestor” of both football (soccer) and rugby was popular and today still celebrated.
