[email protected]: What should a mother do when her 14 year old daughter does not want to spend a lot of time with her mother?
What should a mother do when her 14 year old daughter still wants to spend most her time with her father? She does not want to spend a lot of time with her mother, but her mother gets along with her better than with most girls that age. She wants to spend more time with her father than most small children. She is very close to her father.

sounds normal. Our teens 16 yr old daughters spend time with me (their mother) and we can talk and do stuff together but they are daddy’s girls…through and through. Our son is a momma’s boy…we are closer, but he still spends plenty of tiem with his father.

Maybe because her father doesn’t ask her a ton of questions. Fathers don’t appear to be as interested as mothers. And fathers don’t try to dress and act like their daughters. If you are doing these things, stop. She is 14. She is going to rebel. Talk to her. Talk to her dad and ask him whats up.

Hmm…that old adage about letting something go comes to mind. Teenagers are so volatile- sometimes it works better to let them have more freedom to make their choices, versus forcing them to do what you think is right for them. If you want her to want to spend more time with you, make the time you spend together fun. Take her shopping, take her to get a caffeine-free drink at Starbucks, get mani/pedi together. Don’t get me wrong, it really isn’t all about money and fun. The other part is having an honest and open, loving relationship. Get involved in what she is interested in. Ask her what is happening in her life (and DON”T freak out if she is honest!). The one thing that stands out in my mind about my relationship with my dad is his ability to make me feel like I was the most important person in the world to him. That no matter what he was doing- he would drop it if I needed him. I hope this helps.
