MizzReaver: What kind of fish are compatible with blood parrot cichlid?
Right now I have one blood parrot and it’s very young. What kinds of other fish can you put in the same tank? We are thinking about getting another little one, but we just wanna know what other fish will go well with it. thank you!

other cichlids, plecos, oscars, red bellied Piranha, very large goldfish, koi, catfish, small turtles, tetras, stingrays, and some native fish might work
first thing i need to know is what size tank do u have cause that decides everything second is this is a very debated thing on here as i have currently in a tank 2 parrot cichlids a jack demsey an oscar 2 bala sharks a pictus catfish and a common pleco or sailfin never was really determined which he is because they look alike but u can have a mix of things back when i got my first parrot cichlid i had him with 2 gourami’s 4 mollies 4 swordtails and the pleco in a tank and he got along with them fine they say they are semi agressive but really they are only that way in groups of 4 when u put them with more of their kind they are almost like Parana as they swim in a group feed together and attack other fish together and though they can’t really bite they can ram really hard i’ve had mine hit my hand from one side of the tank to the other when i went to remove eggs and it was like getting hit with a rock in the hand it scared me more then it hurt but honestly aim to get a male and u should be ok females are a little more of a pain with other fish because when they lay eggs they lay infertile eggs and they don’t understand that so they gaurd them like a normal cichlid would and they attack ur other fish so if u get a female and she lays them other fish will then become an issue other thing is if u get a smaller cichlid they tend to ram it for a while so get one about the same size or bigger then them or they will fight for a little while till the other catches up but anything else u need to know just add in extra details and i’ll do my best to check back and answer for u. best of luck with ur new fishAnswer by catx
To be honest Blood Parrots do best in species tanks. They are a hybrid of several highly-territorial species and will bully other fish, they are not as able to attack though and if kept with something bigger like an Oscar they’d get themselves killed! Piranhas are just a very very very silly idea. You’d end up with a dead Blood Parrot pretty quick.
In a large enough tank a medium-large sized Pleco could co-habit. Bare in mind large Plecos like some of the species sold as “common” need a 75g over filtered tank, very messy animals. The Pleco would also need places to hide as they are mostly nocturnal.
