You’ll need to take art, math and computer courses. In college they will make you take all of those, plus media courses and some other things. I suggest you take art and math (highest levels you can get) in HS.
As for colleges, look for technical schools, like Rochester Institute of Technology, or Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Answer by OrangeKittenYou need to major in computer science or electrical engineering. This field is a heavily scientific oriented one involving substantial knowledge on computer programming theory.Answer by almostahero20
Coming from a software engineering student at the Rochester Institute of Technology, you will need to take all the computer science classes you can in many languages so you know the basics in all of them. I know here at RIT we have a very good comprehensive video game design program and you should look into if you can. If i were you i would stay away from the hardware type stuff. I know one grad student here who did his undergraduate degree in art and is now getting his masters in computer science and he is planning on being in animation and video game design. In high school i would take any programming classes you can and any art classes you can. Also the RIT game design and development program is very tough to get into so you better get good grades, and it might take 5 years to complete college here but you get a jumpstart in the working field because of co-ops which are like internships.
