African Greys have the widest range for speech and vocabulary, but they are not inexpensive, and not a “beginners” bird. If this is going to be your first bird, you may want to go with a cockatiel. They are pretty prolific talkers, and cost under $ 100. An African Grey can cost you about $ 1200 or more, depending on your area. Best wishes to you!Answer by peaceofmind
african Grey’s have the ability to learn a big vocabulary also cockatoos are very fast learners but the bigger birds are a lot to care for i would suggest researching any bird before picking out, they are very loud and require lots of care and attention. make sure your able to properly care for what ever bread you do decide to getAnswer by iluvbirds25
1. would be the Congo African Grey Parrot
2. would be the double yellowed headed Amazon.
When it comes to smaller parrots, you might consider one of the smaller Amazons. I cannot think of any specific species right off hand.
You might check out a Blue Crown Conure, but they tend to be a little on the loud side. This is something you need to consider when obtaining a pet bird.
I have owned many kinds of birds and spend a lot of time around birds.

Answer by kathleen mTry a male cockatiel. They are a little larger than a parakeet, and are very easy to train. Take the bird into your bathroom. Cover the mirror with a towel, otherwise the bird will try to fly into it, thinking that it is another bird. Wear oven mitts or some gardening gloves. That way, your hands will be protected. If you wear no gloves and the bird takes a bite at you, you will jerk your hand away and the bird will think you are teasing it and get mad! Speak to the bird in a soothing voice. Get the bird to sit on your hand. After the third time he sits on your hand and you talk to your bird, you may remove the gloves. When you speak to the bird, hold him about six inches from your face. Say “pretty bird”. Practice “pretty bird” until he says, “Pretty bird”. Call your bird by his name, and say ——(his name) is a pretty bird. You may teach your bird whatever you want it to say. Teach your bird to sit on your shoulder. Never let him go outside, and if you must go outside, put the bird in a cage first. Fresh food and water every day. Hold your bird and talk to it every day. Put a mirror in his cage and give it toys. Male cockatiels have blue over their bills. They talk better than the females. Larger parrots are harder to handle. Try the cockatiel first.Answer by jia
African grey’s are known for talking well. They are very smart and can learn trick also. They are expensive, usually around $ 500-$ 1000. An Indian Ringneck is also good at talking and are less expensive, about $ 200. Quakers talk well, too. Even birds that are known for being good talker’s might not talk so make sure you get a bird not only because they can talk.Answer by Bfids
No bird is gauranteed to talk! Greys, Budgies and Amazons are good talkers for the most part.But birds are not an easy pet! They take tons of $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ and time and are very very messy! If your parents are bothered by noise then i would not get a bird.
Good luck
Answer by Abbey Gi would say african greys are the smartest but they are pricey most parrots wikll talk if u take your time to teach themAnswer by Barb
African Greys are the best at talking the Congo African Grey s . They have the intelligence of a four to five year old human child. But the smaller conures can also speak, just not as clear as the Greys do. Most of the parrots have the ability to talk but the African Grey parrots actually know what they are saying. And can respond to your questions. But the African Greys are kind of expensive.Answer by Dave Womach
African Grey Parrots and Amazon Parrots are known best for their abilility to mimic well but they aren’t the best pets to own – they live 60+ years and are very high maitenance and can develop a lot of problems.
I’d recommend a parakeet for you… they can be great talkers, here is more info;
Answer by ~Ronda~The best talkers are African Grey’s. I DO NOT recommend them for a first time parrot owner though! They are very picky on who they want to be “their one”. You will have to gain the trust of one, baby or not and let me tell you from bites of my own that they are not easy to take! My suggestion to you is to get a Quaker Parrot. They come in a couple different colors and ours talk very well and much smaller than a large parrot that can intimidate any one with their beaks! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me! I also have a forum on birds that has plenty of members along with myself that can help you answer questions on parrots and birds.
