chokito: What bike should I buy for my first half iron man?
Should I stick to a road bike or maybe get a time trial one? I’m planning to end the race in less than 5 hours.

if you have the money, of course a specialty bike would be ideal. with me money was always tight and i learned to adapt my roadbike with bars and wheels until i could afford the right bike.
If you’ve got the money, the desire to continue doing triathlons, and the determination to be as competitive as possible, then there’s no reason not to purchase a TT bike at the highest level your wallet can take.
But if your current road bike is up to it, how necessary is it to lay out the money for a TT bike that will perhaps only shave a few minutes from your total event time? Every triathlete has their strongest area…and their weakest area. If you’re not a particularly strong runner or swimmer, and you count on the bike segment to get pick up some time, then you want to be on a bike that’s up to the task. Of course, a weaker cyclist might count on the best bike to help them on his/her worst segment.
Again, you’re probably only talking minutes here. How important those minutes are and how much disposable income you have should be the factors that determine your decision. Otherwise, keep training and invest in a coach.
Answer by COREY BGet a DK Havok. Its only $ 229.99 brand new and only weighs 26.5. You could also use your saved money to buy a 1 piece sprocket, and drop the weight to about 24 lbs. And if you get a good set of alloy nipples you could drop it down to 20 lbs.
