Teresa J: Are tattoo shops required to inform that tattoos are permanent before they start?
So many come here looking for ways to remove, cover up or fade a tattoo. Were they not informed by the tattooist that they must be considered permanent (hard to believe they wouldn’t know that)? I’m just curious if by law you have to sign an agreement that you understand it’s permanent. Thanks.
I know Jessica, you’d think everyone knows that yet every day another dozen people show up here wanting to know how to ‘fade’ or make a tattoo ‘go away’ like they suddenly discovered it was permanent.

most shops you have to sign a waver stating that you are 18, and that if something goes wrong with it afterwards its a result of not taking care of it properly. i havent seen anything stating they are permanent. most people should know that.Answer by Lava
That’s like warning people that buy booze they might get drunk from it. If you didn’t know, you deserve to be upset about your forever tattoo.Answer by Jacknife Barber
Yes. This information is permanency is specifically stated on the consent form you sign before getting a tattoo in any professional tattoo studio, along with the discomfort you could experience, and the requirements you agree to before getting inked. You must state that you have no physical or mental liabilities that would prevent you from getting or enjoying a tattoo, and that you are NOT pregnant or breast feeding, among other things. Picture ID is also required by state law, in the states where tattooing is regulated, regardless of your age. Take care.
