H3: Our kitten is a month old now and she is still breastfeeding. How do I help her switch to kitten food?
How old should the kitten be before switching to kitten food? Her mommy cat seems to be getting tired and crabby all the time so I wonder if the kitten should start eating on its own. She’s a month old now and has started to run and play so she needs a lot of energy. Thanks and happy holidays to all!

She should still be on milk. Cats are pretty good at weaning their young on their own. 6-8 weeks is generally ideal, and I’d bet your old lady will do the job on her own.
You can begin leaving kitten food down for them, but if she doesn’t eat it, I wouldn’t worry just yet.
Answer by OcimomI usually don’t even try to get them to eat solids till they are about 6 weeks old. You drive yourself nutz when they are not interested. You can start by making a thick soup of canned kitten food and KMR (milk replacer) mixed with warm water.
Put some on your fingers and let the kitten lick it off. Feed the kittens in a room you can clean up (like bathroom floor) – they will be messy for awhile.
Plan on keeping the kittens till 10 weeks old so they get the important social time with mom/siblings to be mentally and physically ready to leave.
And get mom spayed in about 4 more weeks (when they are 8 weeks old) – do NOT let her around any unneutered males – she will get pregnant when nursing kittens.
Answer by DoubleDYou need to give that cat to the mother so she can milk it not you. Kittens shouldn’t drink breast milkAnswer by Candy
Happy Holidays to you to. I’ve had plenty of kitty’s so hear me out. Kitty needs its mommies milk for up to 6 weeks. Keep trying if not your gonna have to go to like a Walmart where they’ll have milk and other products for the kitty. You may have to give em the milk. After 6 weeks of age, start leaving kitty solid food in a dish, he or she will eventually get in the plate. Don’t forget the water.Answer by jesgro_2000
Kittens need to be with their mom 6 to 8 weeks before they are weened.Momma cat will ween them off herself but give her a place to escape lol. leave water and soft kitty food. The kittens will get in the food and then will start eating on their own. You can help this along by making them aware of the food that’s there. Let them lick the food and nature will take over when they are ready
