Every set of shoes my pony wears he pulls the front left off after about 2-3 weeks in. This is not only going to cause his feet harm, but its costing me a fortune in shoes.

Ask your farrier to add toe clips and see if he keeps them on longer that way.Answer by showmanshipgirl
Bell boots are definitly a good idea. I would also suggest making sure the pasture he is in isn’t too muddy- the mud will quickly suck off his shoes! I would not suggest toe clips, if they come off, it may take part of his hoof wall with it!Answer by chasin rodeo
Bell boots, toe clips, all that jazz.
Look at the shoes. Are the trailers coming out the back too far? If they are, ask your farrier if he can get the shoe to not come out the back so far. Idk how they do this but it worked on my friends horse. And catch him while you can!!! My horse kept pulling his shoes too and now he’s laid up because he has little hoof wall and so if he pulls another shoe it could be serious D:Answer by Road Apples
If he’s field-kept, chances are he doesn’t really need the shoes anyway.
If the farrier is already using toe-clips, etc., you may want to consider having him hot shod. But if that’s too expensive, you can either just have him go barefoot or buy a pair of pony-sized bell-boots.Answer by Jo
Try not putting any on.Answer by Bliss
Leave ’em off! The pony will be healthier and you can save a ton of money. Learn to trim hooves and you can save even more. You’re keeping him in a field, so you’ve got that part of the barefoot lifestyle already. Get some hoof boots if he’s a little tender-footed at first. If you do it right, his hooves can get conditioned to whatever conditions you use him on.
If you insist on keeping him shod, talk to your farrier about doing the job right. If he’s always pulling the same shoe off, it’s likely partly due to a delayed breakover on the front, so the hind needs to come down before the front can get out of the way. The breakover point on a shod horse is well ahead of where it will be on a naturally-worn hoof, so it delays the breakover. Think of big long clown shoes slowing a person’s stride – same idea. The farrier can square the toe of the shoe, so it allows a normal breakover. If the heels of the shoe are also sticking out behind the hoof, then there’s not much chance of keeping the shoes on him.
