: Why would Microsoft Security Essentials refuse to load on my system?
When I attempt to install Microsoft Security Essentials why would an error message keep popping up that the version of Windows that I’m running is not compatible. I am running Vista x86, which by all accounts is compatible. Why could this be?

Hey.
If it’s not compatible with your version you will usually encounter a error that says.. ‘win32’ error, although you can try downloading the file, and saving it to your desktop. Right click the file and select properties, then the compatibility tab. Then simply change to windows XP.
You could need to install
– Net Framework 3
-Windows Installer
– Service Packs
These all help run .exe’s
Please note Windows Vista was a failure, because of all of the compatibility issues members of the public faced, you would be better with Windows 7 as they sorted out most of the issues with that OS.
Good Luck.

Make sure that what your installing is for Vista and not 7 or XP. Other than that, try restarting the computer, recent updates can hinder the installation process if they arent completed.Answer by Pulsar
You need to install the Vista service packs 1 and 2.
it clearly tells you this at the microsoft website.
