radioreligion24: How do you recover your document when microsoft word crashes?
I was typing my term paper for English class a few minutes ago when microsoft word froze up and the page went blank. I closed the window (it didn’t ask me if i wanted to save), and shut down my computer thinking microsoft word would automatically save the document like it usually does. BUT IT DIDN’T WORK and I lost about a page of writing. Any ideas how I can get it back?

NOPE…that stuff happens…and it is frustrating as hell. Sorry…but it is lost.
you cant . thats one of the most annoying things about word. what i would suggest is typing on google docs because you can never lose your work. every time you pause it automatically saves. and you can access it from any pc being that its on the web.Answer by Jennifer L
nothing is ever lost it is burned into the hard drive permanently it would take thousands of years of constant downloading inorder to over write all of your hard drive documents…. look for a proffessional in your area… perhaps geek squad? and ask them to go into your hard drive and retrieve microsoft word files that have been deleted, tell them you know it is highly possible, and want them to put in the effort that you are going to have to pay for, and offer a nice tip if they get it off there for you, this will intice them to not screw with you and say they dont have time, or cant… or find someone through the phone book, look up computer technicians and go from there, might be something else you can look up, but I would start there. How do you think they find deleted illegal documents, like kiddy porn, on computers (newer and older ones… lap top or desk top, even cell phones have a hard drive!) so becareful what you do with all your technical gadgets! can come back to bite you.
GO TO THE RECYCLE BIN first!!!!
however if you didnt save it, it is lost…. I assumed you saved it and accidentally deleted the file…
2 posssible ways, try reopening the document, and it might have a sidebar with recovered information.
OR (possibly)
open a new word document and see if that side bar or window comes up.. other than that, sorry.
always save (ctrl S) normally, microsoft document saves automatically every ten – twenty minutes.
Answer by Terry GNow you know why Mr. Gates cops a lot of flak.
If you hadn’t saved the file first it’s gone.
Each time you start a new document word creates a new temporary file. If it’s not saved and the program crashes what has been entered becomes random data on the drive. It’s there but not accessible because the program has not been given any information by way of a file name to access it.
Get into the habit of each time you start a new project give it a file name first and save it.
Then start your work.
The program should do an automatic save after a set period or you could use ctrl+s on a more regular basis. That way if the program does crash what you’ve done up to the last save will still be there.
The ctrl+s routine is particularly important if you ever do any graphics work.
It’s possible to spend an hour or more restoring a photo to find all your work’s gone because it wasn’t saved progressively while working.
All or most of us have had to learn the hard way.
