MonsterMama: How can I get my new kitten to like my dog?
I just got a new kitten. She has been socialized with other cats, but not dogs. My dog really likes her, but the kitten still hisses at the dog. I have tried keeping them in separate rooms, and slowly introducing them, but the kitten won’t cooperate. They are sleeping in the same room only 3 feet away from each other, but if my dog gets any closer, the kitten gets scared. How do I get her to like my dog?

Dress your dog as a kitty 🙂
Just give it time. She will get used to the dog eventually, don’t force it.Answer by Strength Coach Guy

It will just take some time. She may never be totally comfortable especially if your dog is big. Try keeping her near a door that the dog is on the other side of. Or put the dog collar in bed with her or a toy.Answer by bunny
Give it time to let them know each other it might take a while but it should work…=DAnswer by Brezzo
Just slowly introduce them, and they will get over it in like 2 weeks. Should be fine if they sleep that close!Answer by kyle

I just continued to slowly introduce my kitten and dog. The kitten would hiss and run away because the dog would get close because she was curious. Just let the cat and dog go. If the dog starts attacking, stop him obviously, but you just have to let the cat hiss until it’s comfortable. My cat would hide under couches and things, but would sneak out because it wanted to see the dog, then hide again, until they were okay. There’s really nothing to do but keep doing what you’re doing, but not coddling the cat everytime he hisses.Answer by JD
Try this…
Keep your cat confined in a small area such as the bathroom or something and put your dog’s favorite blanket or toy or something that smells like your dog in the small area with the cat. Allow the dog to sniff by the door. This allows your cat to smell the dog and be curious while still feeling safe behind the door. After a few days, let the cat out but keep the dog on a leash and allow the cat to move around and explore while the dog is secured by you. The cat is only scared of the dog but it will get used to him/her. By doing this, it just makes it a more relaxing process for both of them. It is always good to have places that the cat can go to that the dog cannot. It allows the cat to feel safe away from the dog.Answer by Irv S
The cat will ‘get used to’ the dog eventually. It will take time.
The two have different inbred ‘signals’ and don’t understand
each-other well.

You are already doing what you are supposed to do, so maybe you should try rewarding your cat with something they like when the dog is around, like food. Cats will learn better when food is involved. First keep the dog and cat in the same room until the cat stops hissing. Then give the cat some food. Every time the dog is around, give the cat a treat. That way, the cat will associate something good with the dog. Because I am not an expert in animal behavior, I’m not really sure if it will work, but you can try.Answer by Andie
Give it some time.
When I brought my kitten home all she did was hiss at the dog. My dog was totally smitten for the kitten from day one. I just let them explore each other at their own pace. I always watched them like a hawk and kept them physically separated when I could not watch them.
After three days my kitten was equally as smitten with the dog, but it may just take more time. They now play together and occasionally sleep together.
