Kitty will know when she’s hungry. Just set a dish of food out. If she’s a tiny kitten, she may need the dry food to be mixed with water, so be sure you don’t let the food go bad. Be sure there’s water available, too.
It depends on the type of food you feed. All cat food packages come with recommended feeding amounts listed right on the package, so look at the package, and use that as your starting point. (Sometimes, depending on the kitten you may need to adjust up or down a little.) Make sure that you pick out a high quality food designed for kittens – I’m a fan of Nutro, but Purina Pro Plan is also a good bet. Good luck, and take lots of photos of your new friend!Answer by primitivemeow
You didn’t say how little the kitten is, but a general thought is that kittens need more food than a mature cat. Also it’s best to feed all canned food and either stick with a canned diet, and possibly supplement with a few crunchies as a snack. If you do go canned, you’ll probably go through two small cans a day or a whole larger can. The big dog food sized cans you’ll do one whole one in two days. If you really want a good diet, go raw. And raw chicken necks cut into smaller sections–small mouse size- are great for kitties feral desires! And be sure to have a lot of fresh water at all times! In this case you’ll actually use less food in quantity. I would feed what he/she will eat at a time and put the rest away. Offer again after four hours and see how much the kitty eats. If it’s a little baby you’ll want to feed four times a day and if it’s older, less. My adult cats still eat twice a day.Answer by golightly1963
Kittens eat lots! They grow so much in the first six months! Keep it available…and the kitten will let you know when it’s hungry!
There are lots of good websites out there on kitten care…be sure to read up on this and you will enjoy your kitten so much more!
Answer by KTCheck the packaging, they will have information there about how much a cat typcially eats based on age and weight. As for my cats, I just leave their food out all the time and they eat when they are hungry.Answer by Florence P
All you have to do is leave enough food out and usually they will just nibble all day. Always check it to make sure there is plenty there and change water everyday.Answer by macleod709
there are feeding guidelines on the bag I would follow those and have maybe 4 plus feeding times.Answer by Denise P
Keep dry food down for her at all times, let her eat when she wants to, you might want to give her a little canned food a couple of times a day just to be sure she is getting enough to eat, watch her close, if she is just leaving her momma, she may be scared and a little confused, or she may do what my Siamese kitten did, Zoey was so excited and wanted to play when I brought her home, I could hardly get her to stand still long enough to eat, so I just sat with her for the first couple of days, and made sure she ate, It seemed as long as I was right by her she would eat, (weird Huh) its good your getting your kitty on a Saturday, that way you can spend more time with her when she first gets home, don’t worry about over feeding your kitten, they are not like dogs, cats like to nibble through out the day, were as a dog with eat until it makes it self sick, Good Luck and Congratulations on your new friendAnswer by RuneAmok
It goes by age and calories, not so much quantities.
Energy Requirements for Kittens and Adult Cats
Age kcal/lb body wt
Kittens: 10 weeks 113
20 weeks 59
30 weeks 45
40 weeks 36
Adult Cats: Inactive 18

From my blog:
Do kittens need to eat “kitten” food?
No, kittens do not need to eat “kitten” food. This is because most of the kitten foods on the market differ from adult food in very few, unimportant ways: The kibble bits are smaller (that’s nice), they have a little more protein (but probably not meat-based protein), and they’re higher in calories (that’s nice, but…..)
Kittens do not need anything that adults don’t, and vice versa. Kittens will not be harmed by eating adult foods, but they may not be getting their caloric requirements unless they’re fed enough of it.
The best thing to feed a kitten, if you’re willing to learn about it, is a raw meat diet. If you want to learn more, search for raw feeding at Yahoo Groups. There are several very good groups out there.
Or you can select a good commercial canned food and call it a day. The What to feed link offers many suggestions. Even though they don’t market themselves as “kitten” foods, they are appropriate so long as you feed according to the guidelines.
.
This site has another table showing the minimum protein allowances for cats v. kittens. It boils down to kittens needing 4% more protein than adults. There were other items in there, but it didn’t vary widely at all.
One word of warning – if you’re feeding an adult cat dry food from the grocery store, then I would probably stick with the kitten food for the kitten. Because the adult’s food is inferior, I think it would be better for the kitten to get the questionable benefits from the kitten food. But of course a better idea would be to feed both of them a better food.
Answer by kathchose a kitten but ask if they can hold her/him until s/he is 8-9 weeks old do not take a kitten from mumuntil then. put about 20g of dry food if the kitten is eating dry food the same make as what it has now. feed about 50g of meat about six times a day. again the same brand don’t just feed dry food as this is not good for them. most ‘kitten’ foods tell you approximately how much to feed. if you need advise then email meAnswer by Blondie

U definitely want the 7 week old kitten.. unless u are gonna let the 3 week old stay a little longer with its mom..
It needs to stay as long as possible to get the skills… and milk.. from its mom..
Ur kitty.. will know when it is hungry…
or it will let u no when it is hungry… the easiest way.. is to leave its food out..
with its water and or milk… just put the food in the crate..
so the other animals can not get to it during the day.. but ur new kitty..( belle or blondie) will be able to go in..
I am getting excited about u getting a new kitty as well… I am very happy for u..Us Texans gotta stick together, also if ur in doubt then whatever food u decide on.. read on the package.. it varies..
good luck.. my friend
