Doesn’t sound corny at all and I think those are exactly the type of things they want to hear. Go in there and be yourself! Good luck with this! I sincerely hope you get the job!
I always answer with “There is so much to tell, I don’t know where to begin…..Can you make this question a little more specific so I can get off to a better start”
Then I go from there, it’s usually a much better more direct question that has a shorter answer, which is easier to answer.
Answer by Julie LThis is an important question. I also get nervous in interviews but I found this book called “The Ten Minute Guide To Job Interviews” about 4 or 5 years ago. It is out of print but I think you can still get it.

That question is more to see how you answer it, more than it is about what you say. What you said sounds fine.Answer by Stephanie
I have interviewed a lot of people over my life time specifically for medical jobs.
This is what I look for.
The resume should be on good paper and well thought out.
Appearance! I cant tell you how many people have showed up for interviews with greasy hair, no make up, and raggy street clothes. I would say that every person I have hired for lab showed up clean and wearing scrubs.
When I ask them about themselves the ones I have hired have been energetic and smiling, they usually start out with personal items like kids or spouse or why they chose to be single (centrating on school and work is what I like to hear). THen a bit about goals. And your comment about “had a lot of fun” I would change that to it was absolutely invaluable experience.
I do not hire people that say “like” at the beginning of every sentence or even more than twice in an interview..unless needed. I dont like “UMMMM’s” either. No gum in your mouth. No fidgeting. Just eb very confident and a strong hand shake. I dont like limp hand shakes at all.
Hope that helped you. Its good that your thinking ahead.
Peace, Stephanie
Answer by ***ME***It always bugged me when they would say “tell me about yourself”. Because it’s so vague. Do they want to know your work qualities, your achievements, or just who you are in general.
I think what you wrote is a good start. Write down your answer and practice saying it. So you aren’t so nervous with your answer during the interview.Answer by mrsdeli
They want to hear a synopsis of who you are and what you do. Start with if you are married and have kids..if you’re not no need to say single, go on to what you like to do…hobbies, sports, etc. move on to starting school and how you would like to be a nurse. Then to how you really liked working in an ER and what you did there. Make it more on a personal level instead of corporate. Your resume tells the corporate info. You want them to see some of your personality.Answer by hj_thorne
Well it’s not corny but you can change it around a little, don’t say you worked in the ER and had fun, that makes it sound like you horsed around, say you enjoyed working in the ER you learned a lot and gained a lot of experience working there, you enjoy helping people that’s why you’ve chosen the field of nursing.
However, if you go into nursing is “lab technician” something that is just temporary until you start nursing school? Will you continue as a lab tech or will you leave when school starts? See if you are leaving in september then no one is going to hire you if they know you are going to quit come Sept, if this job is merely a stepping stone before you get into your “real career” they might not want to hire you knowing you won’t be sticking around. So if it’s not then explain that you’ve always been interested in the medical field, what experience you have had as a lab technician any past experience that will help you with this job. And not to mention nursing school. Once you get the job then you can quit when you get into school, but you’ve got to get the job first.
You can also tell them that you are hard working and very dependable (if you are) you don’t mind challenges, you are easy going and get along with people. Don’t be afraid to add some personal things about yourself as far as your work ethic and character go.
Also be sure not to wear purfume (you have no idea if the interviewer is illergic) and don’t have anything in your pockets (jingling will drive an interviewer nuts) you want to be memorable but not in a bad way. Be conservative on the jewelry.
Good Luck
Answer by Tony SI am happy & successful when people around me are ‘healthy’ and successful (look at ground during the first 2-3 seconds then look them in the eyes & smile upon delivery – there is actually a focus point but you can google body language). I am interested in carving myself a successful career path as a ____________nurse. I enjoy interacting and working with then learning from diverse groups of people. I truly believe I experience the most happiness when I have the ability to play a direct role in the happiness of others. Although I occasionally feel over looked I feel the most successful when people recognize the role I played in their lives, and how I have impacted them in a positive manner. With first hand experience I can say without hesitation I feel the obvious career choice for me is as an allied health professional. I have worked in an Emergency room at________. I loved the ability to work in a fast paced environment with an ever changing patient “base” (I do not personally know the term). This type of opportunity allowed me to develop a unique skill set as each demand of every patient was unique. I believe an opportunity as a lab technician might be ________(more my speed) because_________.
Obviously people might have other spins on this. I would ignore everything Steph(top poster told you). Keywords to consider if you ‘re-word’ this: Helpful, Listener, Compassionate, Genuine, Prompt, Interactive, Passion, Motivation, Committed, Value, Atriculate & Desire.
