Someone said that my religion (Islam) is strict because i’m not allowed to play instruments, i can’t eat pork and i can’t draw people. Is she right or wrong because i kinda got sad because she was being a little mean. so is islam strict?

Yes Islam is strict, but to keep people safe, we must be strict. Islam is strict, but it’s only to keep you away from the Hell-fire. It will all pay off in the end.

Musical instruments aren’t haram.
Drawing isn’t haram unless you worship it.
and in Judaism and Christianity pork is unlawful.

@Trooper: so not allowed to eat pork is strict. So your Bible is strict?
deuteronomy 14:8 “Also the swine is unclean for you, because it has cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud; you shall not eat their flesh or touch their dead carcasses.”

Yes, it is clearly very strict. You’re not allowed to play instruments or draw people? That doesn’t even make sense. It’s not as though those things are harmful. Pork is understandable, as many religions have specific diets, such as Judaism. But those other two just seem strange. No offense.

Without answering the specifics, cause there are differing opinions (except for pork) ask your friends what they REALL know about Their religion, and I can guarantee you is not that different….They just dont have any clue to the rules….Christians must wear hijab, if we say no, then we say that Allah made this a ‘new thing” christians and jews cannot eat pork either,,they just corrupted the religion….have them research their own faith and they will find out that were not so very different, we just are following ours…Allah knows best

First of all, tell that girl that it will all be worth it on the Day of Judgement.. Tell her that it is your religion and what you believe in, so it doesn’t matter to you whether it is strict or not..

Yes, Islam is strict, but it is to test you on what kind of a person you really truly are… Many people can just say it’s strict and convert, but that’s not the point.. The real point is to believe in what you believe, whether it’s hard or not…

You can draw people, you just aren’t allowed to draw eyes (from what I know)… You can play instruments AND listen to music, but you have to keep Islam first… If you are too busy listening to music and you forget to pray, THEN it is haraam… About pork, even Christians aren’t allowed to eat pork, but whether they listen or not is their choice.. Is your friend Christian? Ask her if she eats pork.. I heard that it is even in the bible that Christians aren’t allowed to eat pork..

Basically, yes Islam is strict, but it’s for your own good..

Musical instruments are haraam because they deviate from the pleasure and rememberance of ALLAH(SWT). Instead of playing musical intstruments or listening to music, try reading the Qur’an. Drawing is fine as long as you don’t worship the image or you draw mountains, ocean, trees, etc. Yes Islam is very strict but it is for our safety and the safety of the society.

Who said you can’t draw or play an instrument? they are plain stupid.
So long as you don’t do evil it is fine, any action you do is judged by your intentions.

Islam is not strict at all, as only God knows what is best for his creation.

When man is left to live according to his own will, you end up with the kind of society we live in today.

Getting drunk, gambling, dating, adultery, homosexuals, strip clubs, brothels, pornography, nudity, swinging etc. are all quite normal and acceptable by most peoples standards these days.

The sad thing is alot of people living like this call themselves christians, and look down upon muslims.HA!

Just think how immoral and degenerate a society has become when these types of things are a part of it’s norms.
This pretty much describes the state that all christian societies have become, whether western or european.

I tell you christ is completely innocent of their evil ways and lifestyles.

Well put it this way, at least our religion gives us guidelines for things like these… Ask the gal how many other religions can she think of that go into so much detail about what to do in life and what not to do? See how Allah (SWT) has made it so easy for us, given us guidelines on how to practise Islam in daily life so we become better people. He (SWT) could have just told us to worship Him (SWT), without any guidelines, or Prophets (PBUT), etc and basically left us up to our own devices.. then how would we have turned out? But no, Allah (SWT) sent us Holy Books and Prophets (PBUT) who explained everything to us, how to be good Muslims, etc. So no, Islam isn’t strict. Islam isn’t about being too extreme or too slack, it’s all about moderation. We are just fortunate enough to have basically had everything given to us on a plate, so everything is a whole lot easier. Islam isn’t strict, it’s just ‘cos we know what we have to do and what we shouldn’t do, people think of them as rules and that we’re being oppressed and forced into following this ‘system’ when really it’s just Allah (SWT)’s Love and Mercy for us that He (SWT) equipped us with the right tools for the job (i.e. a brain, a soul, Prophets (PBUT), Holy Books). At the end of the day, whatever Allah (SWT) wants for us is the BEST. He (SWT) doesn’t make all these ‘rules’ just so we suffer. Allah (SWT) loves His (SWT)’s Creation 🙂

I know what you are talking about and I have an answer. Sister let me tell you why there are so many restrictions in Islam. First lets start with pork. Tell me one thing that is good about pork. It gives you high cholestorol and is a very dirty animal so why would you wnat to eat it. Next thing is the instruments, I am telling you from experience, if your read a lot of quran music will be like blod to your ears. Why do people listen to music because it gets to your heart. This is a image, if you have a bowl full of puss and urine which represents your music and then you fill the bowl with clean water and just keep adding the clean water which is your quran the bowl empties out all of its filthiness. Next thing is the fact about drawing people. Why are we not allowed to draw people like Muhammed well do we know what he looked like, do you now how tall he is or what kind of mustache he has, so when you draw him you are basically drawing some randomn person and naming him Muhammed our get prophet. This is what the Christians do with Jesus, they dont know what he looked like yet they draw him. Also sister, like one of the people that answered this questions said Islam restricts some thing for your own saftey. You see in todays society that a woman cant get a job without having sex with their bosses which just disgust me. Aren’t woman supposed to have a sense of moraltiy. That is what the Hijab is for. Also why does Islam restirt drinking, because it is the worst thing that you can do to your body. It kills you and their is not one thing that it does that is good for you. Doctors say that one drink a day is good but who is to say that one dring cant turn into 5 drinks a day. So hopefully now you know a litlle bit more of why Islam resticts so many things. And ask that person that told you that Islam is strict, why is her religon not so strict.

Why is pork forbidden??

The fact that consumption of pork is prohibited in Islam is well known. The following points explain various aspects of this prohibition:

1. Pork prohibited in Qur’an

The Qur’an prohibits the consumption of pork in no less than 4 different places. It is prohibited in 2:173, 5:3, 6:145 and 16:115.

“Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah.” [Al-Qur’an 5:3]

The above verses of the Holy Qur’an are sufficient to satisfy a Muslim as to why pork is forbidden.

2. Pork prohibited in the Bible

The Christian is likely to be convinced by his religious scriptures. The Bible prohibits the consumption of pork, in the book of Leviticus

“And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you”.

“Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you.”

[Leviticus 11:7-8]

Pork is also prohibited in the Bible in the book of Deuteronomy

“And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you. Ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass.”

[Deuteronomy 14:8]

A similar prohibition is repeated in the Bible in the book of Isaiah chapter 65 verse 2-5.

3. Consumption of pork causes several diseases

The other non-Muslims and atheists will agree only if convinced through reason, logic and science. Eating of pork can cause no less than seventy different types of diseases. A person can have various helminthes like roundworm, pinworm, hookworm, etc. One of the most dangerous is Taenia Solium, which is in lay man’s terminology called tapeworm. It harbours in the intestine and is very long. Its ova i.e. eggs, enter the blood stream and can reach almost all the organs of the body. If it enters the brain it can cause memory loss. If it enters the heart it can cause heart attack, if it enters the eye it can cause blindness, if it enters the liver it can cause liver damage. It can damage almost all the organs of the body.

Another dangerous helminthes is Trichura Tichurasis. A common misconception about pork is that if it is cooked well, these ova die. In a research project undertaken in America, it was found that out of twenty-four people suffering from Trichura Tichurasis, twenty two had cooked the pork very well. This indicates that the ova present in the pork do not die under normal cooking temperature.

4. Pork has fat building material

Pork has very little muscle building material and contains excess of fat. This fat gets deposited in the vessels and can cause hypertension and heart attack. It is not surprising that over 50% of Americans suffer from hypertension.

5. Pig is one of the filthiest animals on earth

The pig is one of the filthiest animals on earth. It lives and thrives on muck, faeces and dirt. It is the best scavenger that I know that God has produced. In the villages they don’t have modern toilets and the villagers excrete in the open air. Very often excreta is cleared by pigs.

Some may argue that in advanced countries like Australia, pigs are bred in very clean and hygienic conditions. Even in these hygienic conditions the pigs are kept together in sties. No matter how hard you try to keep them clean they are filthy by nature. They eat and enjoy their own as well as their neighbour’s excreta.

6. Pig is the most shameless animal

The pig is the most shameless animal on the face of the earth. It is the only animal that invites its friends to have sex with its mate. In America, most people consume pork. Many times after dance parties, they have swapping of wives; i.e. many say “you sleep with my wife and I will sleep with your wife.” If you eat pigs then you behave like pigs. We Indians look upon America to be very advanced and sophisticated. Whatever they do, we follow after a few years. According to an article in Island magazine, this practice of swapping wives has become common in the affluent circles of Bombay.

Why can’t you play instruments??

Because u will get away from the path which Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) set for you……..

Thou wilt see them bow and prostrate themselves (in prayer), seeking Grace from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure. On their faces are their marks, (being) the traces of their prostration. This is their similitude in the Taurat; and their similitude in the Gospel is: like a seed which sends forth its blade, then makes it strong; it then becomes thick, and it stands on its own stem, (filling) the sowers with wonder and delight. As a result, it fills the Unbelievers with rage at them. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds forgiveness, and a great Reward.

dont listen to what people say about you, they are just people that dont have any life and just want to get attention. Islam is not strict. its true you cant eat pork, alot of religions are like that. in judiasm you cant eat pork or beef, in hinduism u cant eat beef. and you can draw people, as long that its not the prophet muhammad (pbuh). or drawing pictures that have nudity. But it is true you cant play instruments, but alot of muslims do play it.
