can take around a year to get the decree absolute i think.
It varies from place to place. If you live in the states, it will vary from state to state. Check up on your government marriage/divorce procedures because it is certainly different everywhere!Answer by Paul R
If they both agree and there’s no dispute over property, children or money it can come through in a few weeks. (decree Nisei) You then have to wait for 6 months for it to become absolute.Answer by girlie
It depends on the state in which you live. But standard is six months. In other words, from the time you file for divorce, it takes six months for the divorce to be finalized and considered legal. Hope this helps.Answer by Energizeer
Normally over 6 months. Parties have a number of weeks to complete forms and submit documents… It depends on how easy they can find this info…Answer by louisesept1970
my divorce took nearly 12 months to be completed but it can take as little as 3 monthsAnswer by tyler d
In Oregon it took me 3 weeks to divorce my cheating wife. We both signed the 90 day waiver and attended a program called children in the middle.Answer by i_am_jean_s
The timing is to do with how long you get to the first stage.
When I got divorced you have to wait 6 weeks for the decree nisi, and a further 6 weeks after that, (not 6 months,) for decree absolute. This is in UK
The only reasons why it takes longer is, if it is being disputed, finances being disputed, or custody being disputed. Most solicitors would rather sort these stages out before the absolute, as afterwards the “power balance” changes.
My Decree Asolute was given 6 months after the Decree Nisi for the simple reason that although we had been married for a long time, EVERYTHING was in his name, and if I had taken the Absolute sooner, it would have been equivalent to saying I didn’t want anything, and my ex would have jumped at the chance to not give me a settlement, although there was no third party involved.
Oh! that’s another reason, if a third party is involved..then mudslinging starts, and things can get messy and drawn out.
