: Is it bad not to ever take vacations from work?
I’m a self-employed electrician, never married, no kids. I don’t really care to travel or take vacations, because I feel they are a big waste of money. Especially with gas prices nowadays. Why do people make it seem like I NEED to take one once in a while?

Hey my spouse worked for the airlines and we rarely took vacations. We enjoy our home. So you are not alone. Many who take vacations just do it for the bragging rights
Some people work for vacations, some people vacation at work.
You sound like you love your job, so why bother with vacation?
I love vacations myself, but I never have the money to go anywhere, so I either cash them out or if I have to take them, I split up the days and have three day weekends.
Vacations are actually good for two reasons:
1. Its a health advantage. You arent consumed with work, or having to be stressed out because of work. You get to calm down and get some real rest.
2. For us single people, its a chance to catch up on stuff, get stuff done around the house, get the car fixed, get the house cleaned really good, get stuff done and caught up that we cant get to while working.
Plus, if you have someone you like to visit or have someone you date, you can plan your vacation time with theirs and go do something together and not have to worry about work for a few days…..i.e.- fishing, movies, games, bowling, car show….that sort of thing.
Answer by C’mon peopleDont listen to anyone elses opinions unless theyre legit (like if its a medical concern) opinions are like bum holes, everyone has one. If you’re happy then who cares what they think. That being said vacations can help you destress. Are you stressed?Answer by geez louise
People make it seem that way because THEY need a break from work.
If you enjoy going to work every day and don’t have a preference to travel or lie on the beach or whatever, than don’t.
Answer by T EVacation is intended to get away from the daily routine to relax, to see different places and culture, to enjoy different supposedly nicer food, etc. If u dont care about the above, and money and time is a concern, and the job does not stress you to be away, dont take vacation.
I can see that self employed people have difficult time to take vacation of one or two weeks, and that includes many self employed doctor or lawyer who is a one-man practice.
On the other hand, many employees are allowed annual vacation leaves and before i retired, i had a 6 weeks vacation leave a year. However, I didnt take any vacation leave off either for about 8 yrs, i didnt take any vacation leave and I ended up with one year of vacation leave before i retired. Many of my colleaques did take time off to go places, to cottages, to fix own houses, or simply to get paid for the unused vacation leave.
