What do you think about a married couple taking separate vacations? ?

haditforgood: What do you think about a married couple taking separate vacations? ?
And what would you say if your spouse took his?or her vacation without getting your blessing or approval? In other words if they just spring it on you at the last minute, then take off for 2 or 3 day weekend vacations no matter what the spouse left at home with the kids thinks?

I think most husbands and wifes need a vacation together. I don’t think that is right… he should want you to come along.

Thats pretty messed up. I mean I’ve heard of alone time and whatnot.. but vacations should be taken together.

Honestly, honey…I think we all see so many types of relationships working. Some people don’t mind separate vacations. With my man, we like to go together. Sometimes we bring my son, sometimes it’s just us, sometimes it’s a larger family group. But I know I wouldn’t want to go without him. Although I have with my son and my sister, mom, etc. Last minute isn’t good…it seems disrespectful. In any event, whatever the situation…I think talking things thru, seeing if the other person is okay with it, is always the best bet.

that’s strange. i’d think something was up…i’ve gone to visit friends before and stayed 3 or 4 days, and i’d go on a trip with my girlfriends, but never without discussing it first…

I don’t think its fair that the other half is home with the kids all stressed out and the other one is away enjoying their freedom. I would talk to him/her about it and tell them my feelings. If not when they leave they better take one child with them and I’ll watch the other one. Remember 50/50 honey. Good luck:)

It sounds terrible to me. I can’t imagine not going on vacation together. Some people do it and it works for their relationship but personally I never want that type of relationship.

I would be concerned and think that there might be something going on. I think if my husband ever did that I would give him an ultimatum. he can have his vacations or he can have me and the kids. I wouldn’t put up with him just taking off whenever he wanted to.

No problem with separate vacations. All couples need a bit of separate time, to refresh themselves. But they should be planned.

Not a good thing . Who else is going ? Ever see “fatal attraction” ? I would almost bet a person of the opposite sex is involved somewhere, We plan short trips without each other, but it is a 2 day fishing trip with son or wife goes to see daughter.

i take vacations with my girl cousin once a year but i make sure it is okay with my husband before hand. he can do the same if he likes but he doesn’t want to, he likes going with me. if we just sprung this kind of stuff on each other, i know that there would be a big fight.

There’s nothing wrong with spouses taking separate vacations once in awhile. Every couple needs their own private down time. Sometimes the guy just needs to be with the guys and his wife just needs to be with the gals.

Springing something like this on a mate at the very last moment is inconsiderate if the person is just going to take off without making sure it’s okay.

If the disapproval is because the partner being left with the kids is jealous or resentful then the jealous partner needs to deal with it- not the person wanting to go on the vacation.
