wistful_natalie: I’m a crossdresser, what do I wear for my first ever job interview “en femme”?
I’m mid-30s & been crossdressing for a number of years now, making regualr trips out for shopping, the cinema, etc. I haven’t confided in my close friends/family about my gender identity issues, and although I doubt I’ll ever pass as a biological girl, I’ve decided that I want to express an understated femme appearance in all aspects of my life and now want to take some step forward.
I recently applied for a weekend job in a shoe shop, never expecting to be asked for an interview, but the company is question has asked me to attend one! I want to be open from the start, so they realise this is who I want to be, but I don’t want to make it all about “Oh I’m a cross-dresser!”. I’m strugging for an outfit that won’t instantly scream “drag queen” but will have a femme undertone. I had thought of just smart bootleg trousers, a two-in-one shirt & simple ballet flats? I’m just so nervous & desparately want the job, but what would you suggest re. an outfit, shoes and what type of make-up?

Well if you are good enough then your employer shouldn’t care if you are a crossdresser or not.
But as you say ‘drag queen’ does not give the best of impressions. I would go for smart bootlegs, low heeled shoes (don’t go for strappy, open or stiletto (boot shoes are fine)), a simple revere (non buttoned at the top) shirt and open fitted jacket. As for makeup, lip balm (nude or natural pinks) will give a simple touch. If you want eyeshadow, go for neutral shades like beige or brown.
I have given a couple of examples below.
Good luck with the interview!

I think you’re on the right track with the pants. Stick to professional colors such as beige, khaki, black, white, etc…
Tops should not show cleavage and should not be considered “sexy”. For shoes, go conservative. If you like heels, keep it classy, less than two and half inches and as stated above, closed toe. As far as make-up; have you ever tried Bare Minerals? It’s so natural, it’s like you’re wearing nothing at all. Once again, keep it mild. Light colors. For lips, I like Clinique’s Black Honey lipstick even though it’s not really lipstick. It’s the best thing I’ve ever used on my lips.
Hope this helps and good luck!Answer by Shan
i say you go for the ballet flats. there very in right now, which will be a bonus since it will show you know whats in style when it comes to shoes, and the position is for a shoe shop. as for the pants, go with capri length so they can SEE the flats. style your hair and keep the make up simple and pretty. good luck
