wistful_natalie: (Girls responses only please) ‘I’m a crossdresser, what do I wear for my first ever job interview “en femme”
I’m mid-30s & been crossdressing for a number of years now, making regualr trips out for shopping, the cinema, etc. I haven’t confided in my close friends/family about my gender identity issues, and although I doubt I’ll ever pass as a biological girl, I’ve decided that I want to express an understated femme appearance in all aspects of my life and now want to take some step forward.
I recently applied for a weekend job in a shoe shop, never expecting to be asked for an interview, but the company is question has asked me to attend one! I want to be open from the start, so they realise this is who I want to be, but I don’t want to make it all about “Oh I’m a cross-dresser!”. I’m strugging for an outfit that won’t instantly scream “drag queen” but will have a femme undertone. I had thought of just smart bootleg trousers, a two-in-one shirt & simple ballet flats? I’m just so nervous & desparately want the job, but what would girls suggest re. an outfit, shoes and what type of make-up?

pant suit!
(NOT!)
hunnie u got the right idea youll know what to do.. good luck!
Answer by coral.wear some boot cut skinny jeans and some FLAT stylish boots that come up just about a foot. black or brown [dark colors].
wear a white shirt. ! collared !, button down. it looks professional on both genders.
straighten your hair, dont curl it. curly is more drag queen-y.
wear basic makeup, definitely dont overdo it.
brown mascara and light brown shadow. berry colored lipstick/gloss. brown eyeliner.
Sweetie, if you’re going to come out…then come out! Don’t live half-a$ $ . At that point, you’ll know what to wear.Answer by lancer_evo45
why dont u just dress like a guy for ur interview.. better yet, dont ask the same question 6 times straight!!!!!!!!
and i am extremely offended by your question.. guys have a fashion sense 2 you know!!!!!!
Answer by jefflawdogHow about a “chickswithdicks” shirt…FREAK. No one is going to hire a dude dressed like a chick to work retail. Customers will be offended by your freakishness and you will hurt the store.Answer by Danielle
A lovely fitted and nicely cut smart jacket, with a white blouse (not frilly) underneath, with those smart bootlegs you mentioned. Feminine and definite, but not in your face. Maybe add a pretty watch and a delicate necklace.
Good for you for being so open. I’m sure you’ll get the job!
Answer by See That TWiNkLe in My Eye?I see your problem. You need to make your outfit feminine so you can express yourself, but it has to be balanced. Your outfit you came up with seems pretty good. I like the idea of proffesional bootleg trousers, and I also think simple ballet flats would be really great. I would suggest a colour-of-your-choice button up shirt and maybe a nice (possibly fitted if it would work) blazer. Add a simple sleek necklace and elegant earings if your ears are pierced. Keep the makeup normal and light. Do your normal routine with maybe a deeper lipstick colour.
Good luck! I hope you get the job, just be yourself!
Answer by Lulu-luckyI would suggest a simple black suit, or just black pants and either a pale pink of purple tank (under the suit) or a women’s top with the pants. I agree that ballet flats would be appropriate. Both suggestions lean to a feminine idea, but don’t scream out….good luck I hope you get the job!Answer by highmaintenancebunny
Anything you’d wear to church is interview appropiate.Answer by ☼
maybe something like you said- subtle, get feminine. A pencil skirt would also look nice, but a dress might be a little too much. heels are probably out of the question, too. as for make-up, just the basics. some clear or baby pink lip gloss, some neutral or very subtle color for eye shadow. i think you’re gonna do fine!
p.s, in the application, what’d you put for the gender!? just wondering!
Answer by Random HeartsMeYou have mainly suggested what I would have said with the bootleg trousers etc, another idea would be a female tailored suit with a nice soft wool polo neck a simple string of beads knotted just to give the extra female touch and nice pumps or even a wedge, Make up I would suggest get some bare minerals and just do the basics with the foundation and warmth colour and no more than that and a little lip tint that is matte, Good luck with the interview!Answer by Jolly Jacky
