bikerchickjill: How to get sexual orientation on the Census questionnaire?
I emailed the Customer Service Center at the Census Bureau asking what would be the procedure to add Sexual Orientation in the demographics section (alongside race, sex, age, marital status) of the Census questionaire.
Robert Clair of the Census Bureau replied to me that it won’t ever happen because “behavioral or preference issues are not really the domain or purpose of the decennial census program.”
He suggested I write to my Congressional representatives and to the US Office of Management and Budget.
Wow. Sexual orientation is not included because the Census Bureau considers being homo a choice.
Any ideas of what to do in addition to contacting the Senators and Reps and the US Office of Management and Budget?
Being homo is not a choice.
It would be great for everyone, both pro and con gay civil rights, to know more exactly what percentage and quantity of people we are discussing.
I feel the Census questionaire would be the cheapest, most thorough, and honest(because of its anonimity) way to gather this information.

When I take over, there will be no more free elections and thus no need for a wasteful census.
Wow ,she should of said every thing on the census besides how many people live in your household, are not really the domain or purpose of the decennial census program.”
and honestly now that all children have to have a SS# there really is no need for the census. they have the info at the SSA.
Answer by ashley robinsonbeing a homo is a choice, duh. and it is in no way the government’s business what sexual preference people have. its like having to put down what is your favorite food, favorite movie. You got to kind of ask this of yourself, they ask for race because?, they ask for sex because? they ask etc. because?
They do not ask you do you like being Black, White, etc. They do not ask you do you like being a Man or a Women(though that can be a preference to some), do you like being _yrs old. I think they only want to ask things that cant change, know I “think” homosexuality is not a choice, but it can be changed, or persuaded. I know of homosexuals who have decided to not act on there homosexual tendencies, if you will, and remain “straight”.
I really don’t know, it doesn’t ask if you smoke, so maybe they don’t car about preferences, and you got to remember that census are not profiles on dating sites. Though census are like National profiles
