Annabel: How much maternity leave do Americans get?
I am just curious because I have heard it is not a lot.
I am in the UK and I am entitled to one years maternity leave where I work. I get full pay for the first 12 weeks and then half pay for 6 weeks. After that I am entitled to Government maternity allowance for 9 months. I only get this allowance because I work and have paid into the system.

2 years off for white privilege; day off for minorities
Maternity leave isn’t standard in the US, it’s up to the company that you work for to provide the amount of weeks of paid maternity leave.Answer by soulflower
Ah.. the UK and continental Europe. So ahead of the curve.
Google FMLA. Women and men are entitled to 12 weeks but usually people can go no longer than 2 months anyway. No one is required to pay you, but some larger firms/companies do. They have to reserve your job but there are so many ways to fire you. People who are in the armed services reserves deal with the same issues.
People resent it and some women (and men) abuse it.

Unfortuantely no company is entitled to give you any, some do some don’t some don’t pay you much and others force you back within 2 months. Which is bad for BOTH the mother and child.
It’s sad, then they wonder why people are having less and less children, maybe it’s because people don’t care enough about the mother and child.
