Jacque C: How long does it take to have enough muscle to do Ballet pointe?
I started ballet two months ago and I am 15 years old. I have ballet every day for an hour. How long will it take until I am finally ready to do pointe? A lot of people told me about 3 years. And if so, do you think are there any studios willing to teach 18 year olds pointe?

Pointe should not be rushed, you can do damage, just be patient and wait till your teacher encourages you to begin pointe. I know it’s so exciting to start but painful as well so you need to be 110% ready..
It depends alot.
When dancing pre-pro at a young age, most girls go en pointe between the ages of 9-13. Many girls, at 9 are not ready for pointe. They do not have the strength. However, few 9-year-olds DO have the strength. It varies for every age.
When dancing pre-pro, girls take a pre-pointe class, and classes at least 4 days a week, so about 8-10 classes a week. They work on their calve strength, toe strength, flexibility, and their core (pulling in your ribs, and pulling in your stomach. Sort of like a corset.), which helps them with balances.
So, back on topic, it really depends on how strong your technique is.
IF you are having problems with your core, cough. The feeling of exhaling, and your ribs pulling themselves in engages your abs, which gives you better balance.
Another thing to work on is turn out. Do not force it, and try and think of your legs spiraling down to the floor, your inner thighs twisting out.
And of course there are teachers willing to teach you!
Make sure you have clean technique if you would like to do pointe.
Answer by dancer91hey there. If you’re going every single day (except weekends) and working really hard you may very well be on pointe in a year.
we have one girl who started with she was 15 and she was on pointe later on when she was 16. It took her about a year and half.
just work hard. do lots of releves to strengthen your ankles. let your instructor know you’re interested in going on pointe.Answer by coolness816
you will be ready to go en pointe wen your teacher tells you to. your ankles hve to be strong you have to have great technique of demi and a strong core.Answer by hip-hopper 😛
i started ballet at the age of 12, and i went on pointe 6 months later. You just have to work hard, and strengthen your ankles. I personally don’t think that it will take 3 years. Talk to your ballet teacher, and she will give you some stretches to work on, before going on pointe. best if luck!! 🙂
