Seadog: How is Google Books getting the proprietary rights to publish nearly every book online?
Does anybody know? It seems to defeat the purpose of buying books if you can access nearly any book anytime. I think they even offer downloadable PDF versions that you can save and keep forever! I can’t say that’s not good…I just don’t get how they have the right to do that.

Does it matter??? I’m freakin happy as hell! Who wouldn’t want their favorite book FREE?
They aren’t publishing every book, although I’m sure they would like to get to that point. What they are publishing are public domain books. Books whose copyright has expired, which means it is legal for anyone to distribute them however they like.
