Tomra: What good books would you recommend for me?
I’m an 8th grade girl, so nothing that’s 1000 pages long or has a bunch of SAT words in it.
My favorite books are Of Mice and Men, and A Clockwork Orange.
I’m also interested in graphic novels, but I still need some ideas that could count as school reading material. I can get bored of books pretty easily so I need a book with an engaging plot and characters. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Sounds like you enjoy more advanced books than a girl you age.
I think you might enjoy.
Thought Gang: Tibor Fisher
A Confederacy of Dunces: John Kennedy Toole
The Demon: Hubert Shelby Jr.
Rum Diary: Hunter Thompson
On The Road: Jack Kerouac
I think you would enjoy any of those books. Great characters, fast paced and good plots.
I hope you check these out I really think you would enjoy them.

here’s a summary:
When Cameron, a high-school slacker, finds out he has fatal mad cow disease, he sets out on an epic quest to find a cure and maybe save the world, too. Accompanied by his friends — Gonzo, a dwarf, and Balder, a Viking god disguised as a long-suffering yard gnome (don’t ask) — Cameron faces an increasingly bizarre series of misadventures involving a punk angel, New Orleans jazz musicians, and snow globes in this very postmodern retelling of Don Quixote.
hope this helps (=
Answer by brwright11You like fantasy books? Sword, sorcery and a book series that will keep you busy for the rest of the year?
Wheel of Time
Magic is controlled by women in the novel and takes place as a battle for the world (good vs evil)
Engaging characters in fact these books have given me some of my strongest emotional responses to any “series” I’ve read. Main author died but had the final book mostly written they are breaking it into 3 parts.
There are 12 books right now but they plan 15 in all. The next one comes out in October I believe. Each book is roughly 300 pages not too long but has enough to develop characters.
IF sword and sorcery isn’t your thing Pride and Prejudice or To kill a mockingbird are classics for a reason. Also look into Kurt Vonnegut /Jr.
Since you have read a clockwork orange I think you can handle George Orwell pretty good. 1984 and Animal Farm are good.
Also for some short stories I like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, there is a lot about Sherlock Holmes that just doesn’t make it into the movies. Sign of Four, the Red Headed League and the Hounds of Baskerville are just some of the more popular ones.
Answer by Mattie McMatt FaceTry 1984 by George Orwell. It will be a lot of fun to read, not too long, and will make you think a lot. It is also one of those must read books for high school aged people and will give you a deeper insight as to what is happening in the world today. I read it when I was your age and it led me to read about another dozen books along the same line.Answer by luvs my nerds
try reading “The Dream House Kings” series by Robert Liparulo
The actual name are House of Dark Shadows, Watcher in the Woods, and Timescape.
There is one more before Timescape but i cant remember the name of it.
They’re about this family that moves into this house in the woods. The two boys find a door behind the wallpaper that leads to the attic. In the attic there is a long hallway with several doors that lead to different places and different time periods.
they’re not too long and they are freakishly good.
Answer by AliceNokosee: Rise of the New Seminole by Micco Mann. It’s basically a contemporary teenage Tarzan and Jane tale set in the Everglades. Lots of action and adventure. The story is told through the voice of a teenage girl punk rocker named Stormy Jones. Although I’m a Twilight fan, I related more to Nokosee because of his vulnerability and total lack of any superhuman powers (although he can kill with his little finger thanks to his crazy dad’s plan to groom him into the first of the New Seminole who will wage an eco-war on the “Outside”).
