BeeQC: How do you sign English and language in ASL?
I mean English as in the English language not as in from England.
Also, when you form a language name, can you just say the country where it’s spoken + language? eg russian = RUSSIA + LANGUAGE or spanish = SPAIN + LANGUAGE
oh, thank you! but what is the sign for language though?
thank you both! each of you answered half of my question so i don’t know which one to choose… :/

The sign for ENGLISH, as in the language, and ENGLISH as in the nationality, are the exact same sign. The context in which it is used is what distinguishes between the two definitions. If you were to sign, I SPEAK ENGLISH, vs I AM ENGLISH, that clears up any uncertainty to the person receiving the sign. The same goes for RUSSIA and SPANISH. Hope this helps.
Looks like ENGLISH has already been answered, as for LANGUAGE, its a little difficult to explain, make two L hands and point them with your index fingers facing forward with the thumbs touching. Then move them in opposite directions while shaking them—here’s a link to a video of it.
