HAPPY NEW YEAR. New Year’s Day is January 1 (America, south east Virginia)
At 61, my partying all night days are long past. My wife and I spend NY eve quietly together, go to bed, and as usual make slow, passionate love.
My last NY eve party was ’99. I was working with the Taiwan Navy in Charleston, S.C. and went to the C.O’s house, then to a pub where a friend of mine was on a date. I wound up driving her home because her date was too smashed. We sat on the couch talking until sunrise, then I went back to my efficiency and slept most of the day on the 1st.
I also attended the Chinese New Year party with the Taiwan Navy while in Charleston. It was held on board the EX- USS Pensacola LSD-38 that they bought and renamed the HSU HAI LSD-193. In Cantonese Happy New Year is Gung Hay Fat Choy (may you have a prosperous new year) or Sun nien fai lok (simply ‘happy new year’). I also spent a new year’s celebration while working with the Turkish Navy in ’95. In Turkish, it’s Yeni Yiliniz Kutlu Olsun.Answer by Ketut’s
Hi, as I am staying in Bali – Indonesia, I got two new year that is one nationalist and Hinduism. In Indonesia National we say “Selamat Tahun Baru” but in Balinese Hindu we say” Rahajeng Warsa Sane Anyar”. In Balinese Hindu,we have own separate calendar and not follow the normal calendar but it was synchronize each other. Balinese Hindu Calendar is based on Wuku (week) which is only consisted of 30 Wuku in calendar therefore our new year date in fix date but it is fix day.

I’m an American of Korean descent, so besides ‘Happy New Year!’, I sometimes formally say:
새해 복 많이 받으세요.
Seh-heh bok ma-ni bahd-eu-seh-yo.
(Good luck in the new year.)
The new year on Jan. 1st and the Lunar New Year are both celebrated in Korea.

In Japanese:
We say “Shin nen akemashite, omedetou gozai masu (新年 (shin nen) 明 (a) けましてあめでとうございます)”
Some people just say “Akemashite omedetou gozai masu.”
“Happy New Year” is even said as it is; “Happii nyuu iyaa (ハッピー・ニュー・イヤー)”
In Japan, New Year is January 1st, and it normally lasts to Jan. 3rd. People visit shrines and temples to make monetary offerings and to pray for health and well-being for the coming year. They also hope to make their new year’s resolutions come true. This is one of the ways of people in Japan celebrating their New Year.
Hope this helps! 🙂
Answer by RainGerman: Ein glückliches Neues Jahr, celebrated in the night from 31st December to 1st January and in many different ways, with family and friends at home, or outside in some nice locations (restaurants, bars), many people expect the New Year on big public places of the town with fireworks, singing and dancing on streets, toasting with sparkling wine, put on funny huts and enjoy life, hoping that the New Year will be a good.
To you: Happy New Year
