1337 Cyclista: How do I know what breed of dog is good for me?
Me and my family have decided we want a dog. We have owned dogs before, but they never went well. Allot of the time, the dog either chews things, or is just not compatible with us. Now, many of my friends and cousins have dogs that fit perfectly with their family. How do I know which one is good?
Im looking for a dog, not very active, but not lazy at the same time. No shedding please. Also we’d like the dog medium to large size, that is a good outdoor dog, that we can stil bring inside.

Well first I hope you realize that dogs are a HANDFUL and you need to be aware that they are going to chew up some belongings you wish they didn’t…so you always want things for them to chew on. Here is a great website that I use…

They have every breed of dog imaginable…even mixed breeds. For how aggressive I am about telling people they should adopt instead of spending big dollars on a purebred dog, if you haven’t owned a lot of dogs and are unsure about what the responsibilities are, you’re probably better off to look at this website and look at different breeds and their personalities…when you get in to mixed breeds, it’s sometimes hard to know what kind of personality they are going to have…I mean unless they are mixed with 2 well-known dogs that you could look up. Good luck and I hope you find your perfect dog!

I think the perfect dog for you is believe it or not is a pitbull. They are a short haired dog, very obedient and great with kids. In research they have the same temperment as a golden retriever. Mine would when I had her would swim up stream in the river while I walked along the shore and would curl up by my bed at night. She loved being outdoors but loves people so you need to pay attention or they like every dog breed will dig or act out. I’ve never had a sweeter gentler and fun dog than the pitbull. It is nature vs nurture and the breed has a bad rap do to the fighting. They are not fighters by nature but trained to do so. You could make the nicest dog into a fighter but the pitbull is so efficient at fighting and that is why they are the chosen breed for it.
Read some books, there are tons out there and you will find that myths about pitbulls give them a bad name. They are a great, obedient, loyal, and beautiful animal.
Another good one would be the Doberman. Strong, great for families. Good luck.
Dogs take a lot of time to train and you have to keep on it or they will not be good dogs. I’m not saying you didn’t train them properly but I would get a couple books and take it to obedience school and you will be happy with the results. Dogs are great and make sure you love it and it will return the favor.
Answer by scifi_tomboyIf your problem is training a dog – not just tiolet training but to stop a pup eating the furniture – then a crate is the best thing ever. Put the pup in the crate at night (make sure you’re up early in the morning to let it out – during the day, if you are out for an hour or two, leave it in the crate & this will save the furniture). Don’t get a dog if there is no-one there all day, a dog needs company. If you don’t like hairs, then get a poodle, but poodles are an acquired taste (Me, I’d rather rescue a mongrel any day – they have all loved us bigtime).
If you have a problem with hair & stuff don’t get a dog. There are far too many dogs out there who are not wanted because the owners have decided that they make the house too untidy (try living with teenagers!!!!!). I’d have a dog any time – he’s lying on top of my feet at the moment & he will follow me everywhere, God bless him.
