Raquel C: How do I introduce my mini dachshund puppy to lab mix dog?
I am traveling home with my puppy dachshund to my parent’s house that has a lab mix dog. Our lab mix dog is very loving but not towards other dogs, she has even gotten in fights with neighborhood dogs, but eventually becomes submissive. My puppy is very sociable and he is very playful and I fear my lab mix attacking the puppy since she is teriotorial. Should we just keep them apart or attemp to introduce them?

Try to introduce them, but hold both dogs tightly and really make the entire process structured. If they don’t get along, keep them apart.
carefully and make sure there are some barrier to keep them separate if anything goes wrongAnswer by modelgrrl441
You should introduce them in a neutral place, one that your lab won’t consider ‘her territory’, maybe the dog park or another park. You could introduce them to one another at your house on opposite sides of a baby gate. This would prevent your dog from attacking the doxi but still allow them to interact with each other. Once they are getting along through the baby gate, you can take it away and let them play together. just make sure you supervise them the whole time.Answer by stubbernboy
Hold your dutch and carefully bring it to the lab. If they smell each other and everything seems ok you can drop the dog and they will introduce themselves.Answer by Thorn
Well, they’ll have to meet sometime.
Try meeting your parents a ways down the road from the house -in a place your dog doesn’t feel belongs to him. Both of you, you with the doxie puppy, and your parents with the lab walk towards eachother with the dogs on leashes, and let them get a feel for eachother -dogs will often accept puppies, and meeting on nuetral territory is a good way to do it.
Let them sniff (if it’s safe) and then go for a walk together, eventually coming back to the house in a group -that way, your Lab is less likely to feel threatened.
When you get the puppy in the house, immidiatly make sure that it has its own toys, beds, dishes, everything -don’t let it go near anything that belongs specifically to the lab mix -you don’t need her getting territorial.
Remind the lab mix not to touch the puppy’s things.
Hopefully this should help.
Good luck.

I had to go through this as well..
except i have two GINORMOUS 200 lb dogs. And i bought a small chihuahua! I first would make sure that the two big dogs were not eating anything (dogs get aggresive when they are eating)…i held my chihuaua out to them and let them smell her,,,this could take around 10 minutes. then i sat her down on the ground (keeping both hands around her) and let them look at her and sniff her again. Then i let her walk around but held the older dogs…so they couldnt get her. Butthat way they can see just what she looks like and everything. Then I let them both walk around..monitering every step.
If your dog is still that way…get a water bottle..and anytime she growels or anything…spray her ONCE..and say NO. And if she is playingnicely with the other..reward her!
