katieKATIEkatie: How do I help my puppy and my cat get along?
I just got a Mini Dachshund puppy yesterday he is 6 weeks old. I have a cat I have had since it’s birth that is 5 years old. And every time the puppies (I am puppy-sitting my puppy’s brotheR) are asleep and I am holding her, she will just stare at them. And then I was holding my puppy’s brother close to her and she just kept meowing because She’s in heat but the puppy got really scared. So is there anyway I can help them get along better?

give them both $ 300 to get along and if they don’t want it, give it to me!
Normally, people can’t decide if they will or not. Its up to them. But the chances of them getting along are higher if you get them both at the same young age. If you don’t there is quite the slim chance they will get along.

I have some what of the same problem. I have 2 dogs and 2 puppies along with 2 cats that are over 7 years old. The dogs have been chasing and even sometimes attacking my cats. To help them get along better, I give the dogs treats and good things when they are around the cats and act good. When they are bad, the go on a “time out”.
So far this has worked pretty well in training them to be nice to the cats. Hope this helps!
Answer by BabeWell when I first got my yellow lab pup, my cat didnt like him. But after awhile, my cat just got used to him. So just give them a couple weeks, they’ll get used to each other.Answer by Youngburk87
the dog whisperer from animal planet suggest you make them smell eachothers butts, if you belive in that kind of stuff.Answer by Shirley S
Truly? Ignore the issue and they will work it out. Just like with little children, the more you get involved in them becoming friends the harder it is for them to be friends. Stay out of it unless someone is hurting the other one.Answer by moondego
you must separate them when you are not there to train them. When you are available it is constant correcting. Once you do this and they respond in a positive manner you then praise them. A treat is always nice with good behavior. A water pistil works well when training cats. A firm no and a tug on your dogs collar when training dogs. Good Luck.

my dogs and cats get along fine because when we got another cat he was a baby, try putting your cat in a crate and put the crate on a table and your dog can sniff your cat and your cat can slowly get use to your dog.Answer by tina in fla
How can your dog only be 6 wk old, when it’s illegal to take it away from the mom before 8 wk old?
Get your cat fixed, for heaven’s sake. Sorry, but you don’t sound like a very responsible owner.
To answer your question—don’t force them to try and get along, let them make their own friendship—or not!
Answer by elaebluePut the pups down on the floor and leave them alone. The cat needs to adjust to new animals. If the cat is large it might be wise to be in the same room as they could hurt such a small pup. Best to let them decide the pecking order so to speak. The less interference the better.Answer by kellyloveanimals
i have both cats and dogs and they never seem to get along. The best thing you can do is If you have them in your house, you can put them in seperate rooms, and give them both attention, because most cats and dogs never get along. If you force them, they will both be unhappy. I hope i helped

well if you keep them together for a while, they might learn to get along. but i have a dog and cat and they don’t really get along, they just avoid each other.Answer by Cindy
Make sure to pet them both and talk in a calm voice when you are dealing with both of them. Pet one and then the other, tell them what a good dog or cat they are when they are both in the room with each other and they are being good. You just need to work with them a lot so that they can get use to each other to know that every thing will be alright.
You just need to keep giving them both attention when they are in the same room, to help them see that every thing will be just fine. Call them by name so that they get use to hearing each others names. Pet them and just start to get them use to each other, little by little. Just don’t force them all at once to be comfortable with each other. BTW: My cat was already about 8 or 9 years old when I introduced our 9 month old puppy to her, so they didn’t really grow up together. We had just only gotten our dog from the shelter. I really don’t know for sure how old my cat is since she was homeless when she showed up at my house.
I did this with my dog and cat, I could never leave them in the yard alone together with my cat on the ground. But when ever they both came into the house, they could both walk around each other and not hurt each other. I could fall asleep on the couch and they would be as good as gold with one another. They seemed to have a mutual respect for one another. The cat would actually walk up to the dog and put the top of her head on the dogs leg and hold it there for like a minute. The dog seemed to love her kitty and the cat seemed to love the dog. It was so cute.
Answer by That_one_guyok first thing you do to get your cat to accept the dog is take a damp towel or cloth something and wipe the dog down to get his scent on the towel, cloth whatever you used but then put it under the cats food and water and it will connect the dogs scent with something good and will come to like it but i hope it works out it would have been easier to get the cat and dog at the same time but im sure what i told you would work so good luckAnswer by dreamsugar1
