Takarie K: How do i get internet on my desktop when it is connected to my laptop?
I have a Windows Xp desktop connected to my Windows 7 laptop. ( home made cross over cable, yes it works )
I cant get my little wireless thing to work so i was told i can do it using my cross over cable hookup.

why not just get a router
It depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. First you should configure the IP addresses and subnet masks on each computer manually. Obviously they have to be in the same subnet. So if one of them is 192.168.1.1 the other is 192.168.1.2 and both subnet masks are 255.255.255.0. Make sure you can ping back and forth. Then in each computer use the network setup wizard. If you wanna share files then right click on whatever directories you wanna share and select sharing…
If one is connected to the Internet then configure it for Internet Connection Sharing. Note: it must have 2 interface, one to the Internet and one to the other computer, to use ICS.
