Sounds to me like your sound card drivers have been removed some how. At this stage it doesn’t matter how they were removed, just how to check this and get them installed again.
Firstly, right-click on “My Computer” on the desktop or in the a Start Menu and click on “Properties”.
A new window will open, in here go to “Hardware” tab and in this tab click on the “Device Manger” button.
A new window will open, look for “Sounds, Video and Games Controlers”. If this is expanded and has exclamation marks next to anything, or it doesn’t exist then your sounds card drivers have been removed.
To re-install them again you need to run the original motherboard cd and install the audio drivers. If you don’t ahve a cd and it is part of a partition on your hard driver then you need to consult your manufacturer in order to obtain the instructions on how to restore the drivers without loosing any data.
