How do ballet shoes and pointe shoes work?

Penn: How do ballet shoes and pointe shoes work?
Are men’s ballet slippers different from women’s ballet slippers other than color. Do men’s have anything on them to help them do pirouettes etc? What about pointe slippers?

Soft slippers are the same for men and women, and if men decide to wear pointe shoes (uncommon, but not unheard of) they’re designed the same in principal.
There is no ‘magic’ feature that will make you better at pirouettes, that’s called ‘practice’.
