Buddhism was there at first, then the aryans came. asoka fought a war at kalinga then he felt remorseful at killings. he converted to buddhism and preached it and spread to many places. hindu kings spread buddhism. so ur question is logically incorrect.
anyhow all throughout hindu history buddhism and jainism were given patronage by hindu kings since they were before it whether in chola period or other ones.
