amyjp612: What religion would cause you to be against micro-chipping your pet?
I read an answer on another question where someone said they were against microchipping because it was against their religion.
Can anyone explain this to me?
New Years Eve Basset: Could you elaborate on that more? I think they said something like that in their answer, but I don’t understand what they mean by it/what it means.

Some Christians think that a microchip is the “mark of the beast” from revelations.
However, the mark of the beast refers to people, not dogs.
Answer by Loki ❄ WolfchildThere was a question similar to this awhile back.
Apparently it has something to do with some passage in the Bible, wherein the “Mark of the Beast” is described. Apparently some seriously literal Christians take microchips to be the devil’s work, the “Mark of the Beast” on their dogs…
…yes. Really.
Hopefully someone who has actually read the Bible (well, more than just the cool Old Testament stories) can clarify.
ADD: Well, if I remember my movies correctly, Damien (little boy in “The Omen”) had the Mark of the Beast — a 666 birthmark on his scalp. And he turned out to be the antichrist.
So your dog may sic his dogs (Rottweilers, the Hounds of Hell) on your nanny if he has a microchip.

Evangelicals, I’d assume.
They’re the same religious group that got all hot under the collar when the idea of microchipping children came up. OR its the Amish. But if they’re Amish, why do they have a computer with internet access- furthermore a Y!Answers account?
ADD> Oh wow, the “mark of the beast” is an invisible microchip in your dogs fur? Good lord I have seven devil dogs laying at my feet praying on my poor soul!
Time to get some holy water guys, our dogs are planning the anti-christ up rise!

Not to make fun of this or anything, but reading this has me rolling. Good lord, people are scared of technology that could actually save their lives (medical chips that save information like allergies, medical history, etc) because they think it will bring the wrath of god upon them?
“The beast is Satan coming to earth disguised as God. He will appear in a beautiful body and will require people to worship him and receive his mark.”
Apparently, the creator of the VeriChip is the devil. And the Devil REALLY wants us to have medical records on hand in case we have an allergic reaction in hell to some sulfur, fire or brimstone.
Answer by SpotsB4myeyesdifferent strokes! lots of vegans refuse to own pets. i’m sure there is some Hindu-esque religion out there that fits this description but possibly they just spouted that out because it was convenient.Answer by Sarah♥
Hmm…I don’t know! I’m Christian and my dogs micro-chipped.
Mark of the Beast, hmm? I dont believe really the Old Testament because times were different then… I mean in the Old Testament daughters and fathers were having sex.
Is this in the Old or New Testament?

Christians. I am a christian and I believe in the mark of the beast. They say they will be need the mark to buy food and without it you will be killed. This is in Revelation.. The government is now trying to introduce a form of this chip in humans to be able to make certain purchases with a scan of your hand.. So one answer to your question is Christians..Answer by terri_1713
A really stupid religion. A microchip is not the mark of the beast or any of that bull. It’s just a way to make sure you get your pet back if they get picked up by animal control or get lost and are turned in.Answer by ♫♪ Nekkid Bootie ♪♫
Not sure exactly which religion..
there are people tho who think its the “mark of the beast” like others suggested tho.
I had a friend who was really into the conspiracy theory stuff.. he didnt label himself as any particular religion, but he did believe that microchips were some mark of the devil.
Its not Jehovah Witness.. my BF is JW, and they are not against modern medicine! They do have some beliefs about not accepting blood and organ transfusions tho.
LOL
The bible says the mark of the beast will be on the head or the hand.. last I checked, that’s not where microchips were inserted!
I think that would be El Cheapo-ism (from the “I can’t afford it” denomination). Or Scientology…we all know those guys are wacky! lol
to be quite honest any religion that deems micro-chipping their dog as a “sign of the beast” (mentioned in the book of Revelations in the New Testaments), is asinine. I mean only 20% of lost dogs find their way home when they have minimal identification. Micro-chipping increases that to almost 80% recovery…to me that’s a no brainer.
I don’t like the way some religions pigeon-hole technology and progress, almost as if they wish to remain in the dark ages. I just hope that that person’s dog never is lost.

Well I am Christian/Catholic and I have never heard of anything like this! Some people are scary religious. My mom used to know this couple – the wife had a job the husband didn’t. He wouldn’t go look for a job either because he said that God will send him a job. It’s like okay God might send you a job – but you have to put some effort of your own into it!!! Most of my pets are microchipped, a couple are not marked in anyway, and one is tattooed.Answer by hannahlovesmontana<3:D

I’m a Christian, but my faith has nothing to do with my choice in choosing not to microchip my dogs. To me inserting a foreign object into the body of my dogs is just creepy! And besides according to the Bible, Christians will not be here during the time of the marked beast. At that time Christians will be in heaven, so really we don’t have to worry about the mark of the beast because we’re not going here.
Why don’t you just ask the”asker”about what they mean by their statement and what religion they are referring to?

As a Christian I believe that this type of micro-chipping and REALID are precursors to the mark of the beast. The technology is astounding if you read up on it. There is this scientist and his wife who use their inplants to turn lights on and off in their house, their security alarm and what not. They are even linked so that if he is in one room and she in another, for example, one can wiggle their fingers and if they wish, it can be felt by the other. In an interview the scientist was asked how he felt that some believe this to be a precursor to the mark. His reply was that eventually there would be two kinds of people those who have it and those inferiors who don’t. I prefer to be the inferior one in his mind and keep my dog that way too. I hope this helps you understand there being a religous viewpoint on the topic.Answer by alikayak27
First off, the wording of the “mark of the beast” passage in Revelation (btw, its Revelation not Revelations and is in the New Testament not Testaments) is very figurative and no one is sure if it is a literal mark or not.
Its sad that people who call themselves “Christian” can use this verse to support their argument of not micro-chipping their pet. Shouldn’t Christians worry more about taking care of the poor, orphans, widows, and trying to be more Christ-like?
To answer your question, I don’t know what religion says you can’t microchip your pet, so I’m not sure why I’m even answering right now.
