Jove Hans: How can I protect my brother’s hands when my dog attacks him?
My dog bit my neighbor yesterday and I thought it would be great to train him in Shootzsand to channel those drives.
I put my brother in his winter clothes. He has a big fluffy ski jacket and big fluffy pants. We wrapped him in big burlap bags, liek the bags potatoes come in. We’ve seen the police dog demonstrations so we know all about it.
But what if my dog bites his hands? How can he protect his hands? Would leather gloves work?

Loads and loads of mittens.
Is this post a joke? Surely nobody could think that was a good idea. Those professional suits are almost bulletproof and the dogs have months of intensive training before they ever put a tooth near a person.
I have a Chihuahua who could shred your suit.
Answer by toobingaddictif you do this with your dog, you are encouraging him to bite people. He wont stop at biting your neighbor. This isn’t a game, you could be forced to have your dog euthanized !! Take it to dog obedience, you would get more satisfaction knowing you are treating him something positive + to obey commands. If you want him to be an attack dog like the ones the police force have why not see if they will take him ? I dont think they would but thats the only way he’s going to be even more aggressive ! Don’t do it. Keep him in a secured place where he can’t bite or attack anyone. He may kill or very seriously hurt someone or another animal. I myself wouldn’t want a dog like this. Mine have to be a dog I can handle or else the 2 of us just wouldn’t mix. He would have to get training.Answer by cooldogs
well he should put his hands in the sleeve of the jacket. but i would get profetional help you dont want the dog to turn out visious. so i would go to a trainer that speciolizes in that. it is ok to train your dog in this but the dog needs an off buttom to be able to stop that behavior if you are in public or the dog might have to be put to sleep. i would not train this to my dog but since you will not listen go to a trainer and train this dog the correct way so you will not end up killing your dog by making him visious.Answer by Jo
I sure hope this is a joke. What you are doing is very dangerous. It’s like the program Jack*ss, trying to do stunts when not a stunt person, professionally trained in HOW TO.
No insults are intended here. I have seen dogs have to be put to sleep because they get screwed up by people trying to copy what they have seen handlers or people on TV do. That’s as wreckless as it would be for someone to handle snakes because they have seen Jeff Corwin do it on TV.
Not only is the dog’s well being at stake, but your brother and you and your neighbors are living around a dog being made into a DANGEROUS DOG.
In Schutzhund training (which just means guard dog training) a handler or their family is NEVER the bad guy being attacked. All that aside: Your dog will protect your family naturally if there is a serious threat and if it wouldn’t then it is a dog that would not even be a candidate for a professional to train for this. You are creating a dangerous dog.
I hope you will stop before someone gets seriously hurt and/or your dog is impounded and/or put to sleep.Answer by Cats
This s my first ever time on this site, but I am pretty knowledgeable about pets, dogs in particular. And I have common sense to boot. My advise follows the other frequent posters. DO NOT USE ANYONE AS A TARGET – for your dog to chew on. This is dangerous. and by all means should not be tried by amateurs. People who train dogs to attack are not good dog owners.Answer by Cindy is Hot like DP
First of all, it’s not Shootzsand and you don’t want to do this yourself. It’s Schutzhund – you join a club and learn the sport – with trainers and proper equipment, and supervision
Secondly, you never make homemade bite sleeves yourself. It’s dangerous.
Please don’t start trying to train your dog on this sport on your own. If you dog has aggression, you may make it worse. He needs to be evaluated by a professional trainer and help.
Good luck!
Answer by Allie PSchutzhund training is very intense and honestly should not be attempted by anyone who isn’t trained to handle the dogs.
Seeing the police demonstrations and actually attempting to encourage your dog to behave like a trained police work dog are two entirely different things.
Look at this site: https://www.jolietschutzhund.com/
On the left side there is a link for the waiver, you should read that and understand some of the risks associated with the training process.
Notice that those are grown men and the man who is taking the actual attack from the dog is wearing more than a soft fluffy ski jacket and burlap sacks.
You should consult a dog behavioralist and find out why your dog decided to attack your neighbor. If your neighbor provoked your dog, it is one thing, but if your dog attacked unprovoked, there are some behavioral issues that need to be addressed.
Please be careful, no matter what you decide to do.Answer by sweet_cookie
i think you should let a professional handle this, its way dangerous. if you train your dog to attack on command, he will attack the nearest person every time someone else says ATTACK even on accident. so its not a good idea. but if you want to… then THICK leather gloves would be good. good luck… with whatever you are trying to do.Answer by Gin ‘n Tony
On a funny scale 9.3, originality 10.
Congratulations!!
Bit of advice, cover your brother in BBQ sauce.Answer by JackCare
It is more important to know how to stop a dog biting or attacking before encouraging your dog to bite and attack.
The fact that your dog bit the neighbour indicates serious incompetence in the area of training and control. You need to have full control of the dog by completing at least basic obedience training.
At the rate you are going your dog will be confiscated and destroyed as a dangerous dog, any dog that bites or attacks is at a high risk of ending up like this.
It is quite astonishing that you would even consider putting your brother in the way of harm and your dog at risk of being destroyed, even joking about it is a bit sick in my opinion.
Answer by MajestikmooseOne of my best friends trains police dogs, and i can tell you, unless you are a professional, and have a mentor to help you, you have NO business doing bite work with your dog.
Watching it on TV doesn’t mean you know all about it. I watch House, but I don’t pretend to be a doctor. Also, if you know all about it, you should be able to spell Schutzhund.
There are techniques to being the helper, and the handler. Your dog could get hurt, or hurt someone else. Schutzhund is NOT a channel for dogs with biting tendencies, your dog needs basic obedience training first.
When you train your dog to bite a person in heavy winter coats and sacks, he will start going after homeless people wearing layers of coats and rags, or passers by in winter coats.
Schutzhund dogs are trained from puppy hood to ONLY bite the sleeve.
Don’t get me wrong, I love this sport, but DO NOT attempt this on your own. There are Schutzhund clubs all over the country, join one.Answer by sabumitz
