Dalton B: How can I convince my mom to let me drive to Cali during the summer?
I will be getting my license in late April and I want to convince my mom to let me drive to California from Oregon this summer. I’m only 16 but have a somewhat over-protective mom.
As far as trust goes, I am not very consistent with chores or being very respectful but I have never smoked or done drugs, have an average of a 3.2 GPA and I’m a good driver. How can I convince her?

She probably won’t be convinced considering you will just be getting your driver’s license. You don’t have that much experience for it to be a good idea for you to drive to a different state. If you aren’t consistent with the simple things, why would she think you are responsible enough to drive that far?

16 is too young to be driving anywhere, you do not have an overprotective mom, you have a smart mom. It’s not about how well you drive, it’s about the danger you will put yourself into by driving alone, or with people the same age as yourself. You sound like a sweetheart, listen to your mother. You can’t convince her because it’s not right for you to take off. She is trying to protect you from yourself, years from now you will appreciate her protectiveness.
