Philly Phaithful: How can I convince my mom to get a new lawnmower?
Our current lawnmower is over 10 years old, you have to pull it AT LEAST 15 times before it starts, when it starts, it smells terrible, is real loud, and shakes a lot. When cutting grass, it fills up after walking 20 feet. It sucks in general, both my dad and I hate it, but my mom won’t let us get a new one. How can I convince her that our current one needs to be replaced?

Sounds like your mom is like my wife. Doesn’t like for me to spend money unless it’s something for her. LOL You and dad just need to decide who’s going to be the boss. Good luck.
drain the oil out of it…. run it with no oil and the engine will seize up… she’ll have no choice but to get a new one.Answer by Simone F

I am assuming that you cut the lawn and not your mom. You could check out specials in the newspaper and at your local hardware store. This is a good time to get one since their are so many sales on lawn equipment. All you can do is tell how the current mower is acting and hope for the best.Answer by AgsFan
Since it seems necessary to at least get a good used one, your father should have some say in this issue. Doesn’t he have money or his own income? I would think your father can make this purchase if he so chooses; tell him you’ll help him find a good model at a good price. Then, ask your father to make the “buy!” If you have to, tell him it can be part of your next birthday present.Answer by The Muse
Mom, could you help me start the mower, please? I’ve pulled a muscle in my shoulder.
Mom, I can’t hear what you’re saying.
Mom, this noise is damaging my hearing and I’m too young for hearing aids. (Note: You should be wearing hearing protection so you don’t suffer noise damage to your ears.)
Mom, I’m going to vomit. This smell makes me nauseous.
Mom, could you help me empty the grass-catcher, please. It’s VERY heavy.
Mom, the blade seems dull. How can we sharpen it?
You can change “Mom” to whatever your Dad calls her.Answer by Joanne A. W
I don’t know how old you are and if you can earn money, but try to buy your own. Places such as Sear’s, Walmart, and etc have less expensive mowers.
Try to buy one that pulls itself. They are wonderful. Some of the new models have a push button for starting the mowers.
Set the new mower at 2-1/2 to 3 inches for cutting.
Most new mowers now have a mulch setting. This is good for your grass and you do not have to rake up the cuttings. Try to mow once per week on the same day.
Go to the stores and check them out to see what is on the market.
There are also electric mowers that do not use gas or oil. The cheaper type has a 100 foot cord and the booklet tells you how to mow so that the cord in not in your way or will be cut. Tell you mom about this. She can save gasoline and they are quiet. We had one and loved it.
