momof2: How does a photographer handle photographing an unaffectionate bride and groom?
I have done several weddings now, and find it really difficult to get the great shots people want when the bride and groom don’t show any affection towards each other, does anyone have any tips about how to pose couples who are hardly near each other the entire day? This mostly happens with couples who have been together for a long time, and are past the can’t keep their hands off each other phase.

Nope. I think it’s more of the couple than a length of courting time…The Hubby & I have been married almost five years now and we are still publicly (and tastefully) affectionate with each other……
Just get a tad ‘pushy’ and direct the couple…sometimes those ‘candid’ shots need a wee bit of staging…..
Answer by plannerforget trying to capture romance and go for fun. get them to do funny or fun poses.
you might have to really focus on those few moments when they are together like the first dance, the cake cutting. perhaps a shared word or two during dinner.
Answer by AlisonTalk to the couple about what they want at the interview/s and ask them if they want you to pose them in certain ways during different stages of the event.
If you get them on board with the idea you can even “practice” a few poses with them ahead of time. You can also mention to them that they should make an effort to stay together more often than not so they don’t end up with a lot of pictures of just one or the other of them.
It helps when everyone knows what the plan is before the “big day.”
