blueskies7890: During a job interview, does “we’ve got a few more people to interview” basically mean you didn’t get the job?
I’ve had quite a few job interviews lately and it seems like MOST of the time when an employer gives me the phrase, “we’ve got a few more people to interview,” I don’t get a job offer. Is this phrase basically the “kiss of death” from a potential employer?

Not necessarily. When they say that to you next time, ask them how long they anticipate the interviewing to go on and ask them if you can call them on (specify an exact date) to see if you’re still in the running. That way you have a firm date that you are free to follow up and see if you should keep your hopes up or give up with that particular firm altogether. Be sure also to ask them for the consideration of letting you know if you didn’t get the job.
I’ve been wondering the same thing. I usually ask them when would they be making a decision to give me an idea of when I should stop considering that position.
Good luck. It’s prety tough out there now. It seems that employers want some type of superperson but don’t want to compensate.
Answer by Resume ExpertNot really. It just simply means they’ve got to see more candidates. Don’t let that affect you. Be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. At the mean time, make sure you maintain the momentum in sending out resumes and getting more interviews.

Answer by mazziatplayLook at it this way, they already have interview appointments set up with other candidates. How would you feel if you had set up an appointment and then they called you and said, don’t bother, we don’t care if you’re qualified or not, we just hired the person who was scheduled just before you.
It is a professional courtesy, if nothing else, to complete the interviews you schedule.
Most employers will interview all totally qualified candidates and then complete a review of their notes and reactions to the candidates to determine their choice for the position.
One of these choices will be you. Keep your spirits high, smile, sell yourself, and be confident.
Good luck.
Answer by a99blkdogno,, it means we have a few more people to interview..Answer by Sam X9
Not exactly. It means, they will make a short list of candidates for another screening until they gets the most qualified.Answer by BevD
Not always, it usually simply means they’re exploring other options of hiring. There may be someone else they’re interviewing that has more qualifications or exact qualifications they’re looking for. It’d doesn’t always mean they’re not going to hire you. Although there are times when they’ll use that phrase rather than to say “you’re over qualified” or “you’re not what we’re looking for”. Keep hanging in there and work on your attitude. When you walk into an interview act as if you’ve already got the job.
Act as if YOU are interviewing THEM to see if they’re the ones you actually want to work for. At the end of the interview, if they use that phrase “we’ve got a few more people to interview”, come back and say “That’s okay I have a few more to interview myself as I’m interviewing to see who I’d like to work for”. This will give them a real head’s up because they’ll see that you’ve got the “attitude to know” that you have the potential to do whatever it takes to do a certain job. This will show confidence in yourself. That’s what a lot of them are looking for “does this person have confidence? Does this person have potential?” etc.
So when you walk into your next interview, act as if you’re the one that’s interviewing them. It really turns things around! HONEST!
Good luck!
PS. Perhaps while you’re still looking, look into working from home as well; You can do this part time while you’re looking for your dream job. Not at all. Just means they want to screen through a lot of people and they’re being candid about it. It does mean that there are more candidates out there than available jobs (an “employers’ market”) which probably explains why you have so many interviews without offers. Don’t give up hope. Keep trying. Don’t get discouraged and try to stay positive. Don’t take it personally, just too many other candidates. Blame the economy, not yourself.
I’ve interviewed a lot of people and hired a lot, and it’s really just a crapshoot. Some of the best interviewees have turned out to be duds, and some of the lamest interviewees the best performers. Kind of like picking a stock, you never really know.
Answer by ann123Absolutely not.In fact some say it when they don’t want to appear desperate, stupid office politics etc.
Its happened to me a lot,but when i have researched into it,i found i was the only applicant on some interviews.
It seems they just want to make you feel desperate and some even use it as a ploy,to take you on and accept worse conditions, when they are so desperate to save money. Its a very common practise here in U.K.
I say to them when they tell me they have others to see, that i have more interviews to go to myself, and haven’t made a decision about working for them.
Actually as i say that i watch their faces, and it is easy to tell they are worried to lose a great candidate.
Its all psychology.Never appear desperate for a job at interview,by all means appear keen, but let them know you have options, even if you don’t. Play them at their own game.
Most employers decide within first three minutes of seeing you whether to hire you,and yep,its basically on a visual look not your experience .
Just be a bit braver next time, and let them see your a person with options, that yes you may work for them, but don’t let them see your worried about being turned down.
The very best of luck.:):)
