: What age should a mom let her daughter wear makeup?
My mom is strict, maybe not as strict as your mom, but she only lets me wear mascara and lipgloss. I want to wear eyeliner and/or natural colored eyeshadow. Or maybe even concealer or blush. When should she let me? Or is there anyway I can convince her?
Ahh, and let me add I am in the 8th grade, and she just let me wear mascara last year.

I couldnt wear any makeup until the 8 th grade. My mom is living and cares about me, but still has rules. I think she made a great judgement call!
I know exactly how you feel. My mom didn’t allow me to wear make up until I was 13 but I just ended up buying some and putting it on when I got to school. In my opinion when a girl starts middle school she should be allowed to experiment with make up. To convince your mom I would have an open discussion with her on the subject ask her why she feels you can’t wear more makeup and listen then tell her why you would like to have more freedom with your appearance. I hope this helps, I know how frustrating it can be.

Answer by RondaThere is no set age for wearing makeup, as long as you know how to use it. If you are mature enough to be reasonable and know how much and what type of makeup is appropriate for your age, then you should be fine. For example, a young girl of 13 can look great with a bit of lip gloss, but she would look dreadful if she showed up at school wearing eye shadow and mascara. It will only be flattering if it is age appropriate, and you wear the right look for the right place.Answer by Sienna
When my girl was younger, I let her have eyeliner and lip gloss, but not the mascara, lol. The mascara came later.Answer by SOLO.
Around the age 13 and 14.
Other words, around the time you get into/finish 8th grade.
I started wearing makeup when I was 11.
I wish I had waited. 🙂Answer by Aria
Well i think if you have a bit of eyeshadow thats fine. Don’t have heavy makeup it’s really not nice on anyone especially on a 13 year old. But neutral eyeshadow and mascara and eyeliners fine just dont make it cakey. Good Luck 🙂Answer by skater!

My mom….
inside the house I could get away with almost anything
at school…
sparkly chapstick young
lipgloss/lipbalm at 8
blush & powder at 12
Mascara at 13 (I had to BEG)
Tinted moisturizer/base at 15
Light pencil eyeliner at 16
lipstick & liquid eyeliner at 17
My mother was extremely quick but I was the kind of girl who would put her makeup in school and change clothes when she wasn’t there to see. I’ve worked in many counters and I would say that what you want to wear is not too much. Maybe you can ask for a makeup lesson at mac or sephora for your birthday. The artist there will make sure the makeup is age appropriate and include some new products. With a professional teaching you how to use it so you won’t look 30 I’m sure she will be more open to let you add a few products to your makeup routine.Answer by Naomi A
For dress up: anytime, but not in public until 1. She is shown how to apply it properly, and 2. She is at the age in which her parents feel it is appropriate for her to begin dating boys.Answer by Lauran
i think middle school is a good age to start wearing out, while 3-5th grade is experimental age to wear inside the house. put on a very natural look one day and see if she notices, after a little while go and talk to your mom and explain to her about the makeup and prove to her that you can wear makeup and than talk to her and see her side of the story, and than explain your side. maybe you might just be able to wear your makeup everyday!Answer by Sally
like 8th gradeAnswer by SoCalGal04
I’m in 8th grade too and you actually don’t need that much makeup except you should start to wear foundation and concealer and i only wear eyeshadows like a light pink/ white/ sparkles. Boys at our age don’t really like girls to wear makeup so just wear regular natural ones, right now what you’re wearing is perfect.Answer by sMeLLy
Whenever she feels comfortable with it.Answer by Ignoramus
Around middle school with enough practice earlier on to ensure there is no “disaster” when leaving the house.
Care, respect and patience from both parents and daughter is important in this process.
