entrechat: Buddhism vs. Christanity: Which is the more understanding and caring religion of the two?
You can call Buddhism a philosophy or whatever have you, but the question still applies.
Though, I would like all of you to know that I am an atheist. I just want to know what everyone thinks.

The Bible says, “For God so loved the world, that He (freely) gave His one and only (uniquely) begotten Son, that who EVER believes in (trusts in, relies on) Him shall NOT perish (spend eternity in hell), but have everlasting life.”
What does buddhism have to offer to compare with THAT?
Answer by Crybaby AtheistIn general tenets, Buddhism. But, so what?
Either one is truth or neither are truth.
And if the one that you so haughtily assume is less understanding and caring happens to be truth (don’t get your knickers in a twist, I said “if”), what then?
The fact that one is more laissez-faire says nothing about the veracity of the underlying tenets, does it?
Ironically, the sneering replies you might receive, stating that Christianity is so obviously the worse of the two kinda shoots holes in the whole “caring and understanding” attitude of others, does it not?
Answer by StarStuffBuddhism is a philosophy, Christianity is a religion. I am faithful Christian and I adopted righteousness of Buddhi philosophy in my life, that makes make me a happier and moral person, not hypocrite.Answer by space.soot
Well Buddhism never claims that we need to hate and kill people for their sexual belief, race, or way of life.
Christianity is filled with hate. If you don’t do this, you’re going to go to hell. If you do this, you’re not allowed back in the church. God hates you.
Buddhism is accepting.Answer by MOMMAH
JESUS.
GOD himself SACRIFICED HIMSELF so that WE may believe in HIM and HE gives US the FREE gift of ETERNAL LIFE for it. If WE just BELIEVE that HE did this for US…If THAT’S NOT LOVE….don’t Who LOVE is…
WE call HIM WONDERFUL…

Buddhism has no God. (It’s basically an atheistic version of Hinduism) It teaches to be loving for your own sake. To be loving to receive an eventual reward which ultimately glorifies oneself in the next life.
Christianity on the other hand has a God who is the embodiment of love and asks to be loving to all even to the extent of self sacrifice. Asking to become dead to all ways that are not of God, be loving to all, etc. to receive an eventual reward of eternal glorifying of God, not self reward.
In my personal opinion, Buddhism is probably a more generally friendly religion, but Christianity, when correctly followed, is by far the most caring and understanding religion between the two.
That said, the problem is that Christianity, when perverted, results in condemnation on all who meet your gaze and demanding of following the exact same you do instead of the feeling of compassion that should exist.
Where as when Buddhism is perverted, no REAL dramatic change is noticeable…
If only we had more “Born Again” Christians. That would be a culture worth living in.

A true Buddhist will not kill his fellow man. He will not kill an animal, not even a worm. From the development of empathy and compassion for all beings, a Buddhist cannot stomach the cruelty of fishing, for instance.
A Christian will kill his fellow man if he is in the military. He will willingly kill an animal, delight in hunting and fishing, and things that spiders were made to be squashed.
You tell ME which follower is more caring. As for comparing the two religions … by their fruits, ye shall know them.
Answer by John JooleyTalk about a total failure to understand religious scripts, pairing two religions against one another like this & expecting not to offend?
Neither of them to answer your question, both are the same. I’m buddhist yet find absolute wisdom in many of Jesus teachings, your problem more than likely arises with the doctrines of the christian church (most notably catholocism) who warped/interpreted certain aspects.
As an atheist yourself there is absolutely no harm done in following jesus teachings on life or the buddhas yet not believing in the religion.Answer by Loi H
Buddhism is a religion not a philosophy. It may seem like a philosophy but it’s not. Buddha teaches that there are struggles in life. No one is perfect. Also buddhists don’t come knocking on your door to lure in becoming Buddhist unlike Christianity. And we buddhists do not worshipa fatman. He is a role model.Answer by Amanda
Buddhism but neither can be proven I think everyone should believe what they want to believe and leave other peoples thoughts alone you can not pen point a religion to be correct.
